So last night I went to see Mr Heuerboy with the intention of a trade. I give him cash he gives me a watch. I'd been eyeing this on his website for ages. It's a 1979 TT DJ. I was born in 1978 but like most of us I justified the purchase with the thought it was probably made in 1978 so it'll do.

I love it. Sold and the money was on the table. I had been looking at this one from the 60's as well so tried it on just to errrr make sure.

Now I'm undecided. Nic says he has another.

If I'm being honest with myself I'm leaning towards the silver faced dj's but I've rationalised in my head that a birth year is what I need. As I'm silently doing the old school eenie meenie minie mo song in my head Nic's at his computer when he asks me when I was born.

78

Come look at this.

And lo and behold the nato one is from 1978. Bosh. Sold.

Get home wack it on a leather.

And lastly a pic of the group.

Nice choice smile

I've been hunting for a matte dial 5513 from '79 for myself, proving more difficult than it should (though i do have a line on one, but its away for service and i'm praying the dial/hands etc remain unchanged)

Congratulations, lovely watch!

I want a birth year watch but apparently in that year watches were usually worn in the pocket on the end of a chain.

Beautiful. I'm trying to apply similar logic and man maths to get myself a dress watch. Agree that the classic (surely not vintage yet?) DJs are the way to go...

Thanks guys. It's got a linen type look to the dial which isn't really showing in the photographs.

I was toying between a DJ and the Sub but took the gamble that Subs would appreciate quicker then DJ's so it's happened in that order. I just need to find somewhere dressed up to wear it to now. smile

I remembered when I got in last night I had a cheap oyster style bracelet in the odds and sods box so put that on. Going to have to find a real one now.

There must be some decent quality pattern parts out there?

Were the older datejusts larger? At first I thought you had narrow wrists but it looks quite big compared to the sub. I know it's closer in the pic. hehe

Nice watch.

I've just started looking. Got a quote for just under half what Rolex are saying. I'll do some ringing around this weekend. Need to find my TZ password and see if anyone on there has one for sale. From what I gather it needs to be something with the hollow end links due to a slight different case design. I'll take the one off my Explorer later and confirm if this is the case or not.

Cheers and no. Just my "awesome" photo skills. It's the usual 36mm size. Flat on I don't think they look that different to be fair to the 40mm. It's the weight and height that I notice more.

Nice watch, simple and elegant, like my Omega Aqua Terra blah

But please don't devalue the Rolex by taking more photos with your cigars... eek

Haha yes after that dress down I got last time I'll save the track suit and cigar pics for the cigar forums.
