I would like to have a classical sportish watch which is more autosport than maritime type. I'm about 30 now and it would be nice if that watch would suit me even then when i'm much more older.

That 4k€ is a maximum budget and buying at second hand is a good option too. It shoul be a little bit of special watch smile
I think you need to Google Heuer Autavia yes

Zenith make some lovely watches and I often think I'll have one one day, but that particular one always looks a bit fussy to me with all the colours.

Don't discount TAG Heuer either, they make some nice watches and, really, all that matters is that it's a watch that you can make you happy every time you look at it, regardless of what the cogniscenti think...

Another brand I'd urge you to consider are Sinn. German watches, beautifully made - I've a 203 Arktis which is a match for anything else I own in terms of quality and, I think, a beautiful watch, but I've never heard anyone say anything negative about the brand.
I'm not a Zenith chrono fan either, but at least it brings high-beat design to the table, even if they always get the date window wrong!
Anyway, I agree that Tag make some superb looking designs, and if you buy pre-owned, you get close to where they are in reality for VFM.
The Sinn Arktis in blue or copper dial is an absolute stunner, and will leave loads of spare change to spend on something additional or just pocket.

Turning back to Swiss brands, Fortis is another to consider, but sticking with the Germans, you'll be very hard pushed to better a Glashutte Original.

I don't think £4k is poor mans budget for a watch either, but by the looks of this thread it can buy some stunning kit.

Make sure you update us on the final decision with pics OP!

I thought that the Arktis was blue dialed only? The 356 is the only copper dialed Sinn that I'm aware of.

How on earth is 4k€ the budget for a poor man's watch?! What kind of "poor" is that? Poor by Goldman Sachs standards?

At the rate Christopher Ward prices are increasing, 4k€ might soon not be enough smile Then again, the OP could always hope for a sale biggrin

Firstly your budget of 4k is a serious chunk of money ! I'm not sure what type or make of watch you should buy but pre-owned will offer you serious value. The Vacheron I purchased last week is "as new" and cost me a third of the original price. Its a lot of watch within your budget. The best piece of advise I can give

If you want the easy answer then a Rolex is well within your budget
Oh come on MG we all know you carry more than that in your Aston for parking change :-)

Have to agree with this statement. Whilst it was a TAG that got me looking at auto watches in the first place, it wasnt until I looked as a lot of the other options that TAG seemed to be over priced for what they were/are.
Given their price point there are a lot nicer and better put together makes and as already mentioned by someone earlier, 2nd hand is the only way to buy them, if you must

IWC have a few 'flight' based watches. Obviously their Pilot watches running up to the Big Pilots and definitely buy used. Just as with cars you take too much of a hit buying new and used are much better value for money. I think the Pilot watches also come in the UTC version which has dual time zone thingy. Also I think their older watches look much better than some of their new designs although that is slowly changing again

Forgot about Glashute. Their Senators range is amazing. Something about square face chrono watches just looks right.

I'll echo I don't see anything wrong with Tag other than buy it second hand or when an AD has their sale on.
