No one has ever regretted buying a Sub.

If you think you will get one in your life - buy it now - as it will hold its value...and in 5 years time it's only going to cost you more!
I've been trying to sell my mint 2008 Sub for sometime with little interest so would question the myth of these as investments. Price sliding ever lower, now £500 off and still zero interest.

yes

The past is not evidence of what will happen in the future smile Enjoy it for what it is, and don't fret about values.

No guarantees on value obviously, but if you can't sell a great condition Sub then you're either asking silly money or advertising in the wrong place. They sell.

Yep, I looked around to start with to gauge what Retail was and knocked £150 off. I've spend recent months cutting the price again and again. I don't want to sell through eBay as that's a vipers nest and the trade Offers I've had are in the low 3s.

No. Fundamentally no luxury-goods-level watch is "worth it" in the absolute sense.

You might be able to justify the purchase to yourself, but don't kid yourself - that is "Man Maths".
No doubt about it.

Perhaps bear in mind what the difference between trade and retail would be..

If 4,250 is dealer asking price -
Then 4000+ actual sales price ??

Even for Rolex - I would guess minimum margin would be 20%? Or even 25% .... Margins on other brands such as Breitling or Omega could be higher .

So that may suggest trade price of 3Ish +? So private sale slightly above that ?

Just my thoughts.. Not gospel

Great idea until she has a clear out one day and sells it at a car boot sale for 50 quid ... Thinking she's done well smile

Slghtly o/t I appreciate but is there a better place to sell a Sub than here on PH?

I've got mine up here (minty mint 14060M full set) at a pretty competitive price but it's not shifting. I'm not registered on all these funky watch sites that you need X00 posts to register to sell on and I'm wary of eBay and the likes...

Any suggestions?

Dealer or bite the bullet and register/post a load of nonsense/sell through a funky watch site. I'd not sell through eBay.

Thanks, will defo avoid eBay. I've got a friend who is going to get it on TZ and those sorts of places that I'm not on - if that doesn't get it sold I guess a dealer is the way to go as you say.

I'm on one of the 'funky watch sites' and whilst some watches sell quickly, a lot hang around for months (or never sell) despite seemingly competitive prices and lovely images.

I think things are slow for watches - We've had the Summer slump (everyone away or spending money on holidays) and the Christmas slump (everyone spending on presents) is coming.

It strikes me that, often, people on these sites are only interested in a bargain (I've picked up a few, so guilty as charged!) and Rolex owners are rarely interested in taking a similar hit on their purchase price because they've always heard that "You'll never lose buying a Rolex"....

Especially on a modern watch, it seems unreasonable to expect your money back (or even a premium!) after 1-5 years.

In short, don't expect to find loads of buyers on 'funky watch sites', desperate to buy your watch if it's not selling on PH.
