Hi,
my son's Lorus has died so I thought I'd buy him a new watch. Can anyone recommend something, preferably waterproof, tough and mechanical (as opposed to quartz)? I don't want to spend more than £50, as he'll probably lose it anyway!
And 'no', I'm not getting a PP for him, because some smug guy in the ad has one!
cheers
Andy

Seiko 5?

Can I ask, since when do 10 year olds need to wear a watch. Do they even need to know the time?

If it helps, I bought my 12 year old a bright blue G Shock - he loves it!

I had one when I was about 7!
You're right, probably unnecessary since we have clocks at home and he has them at school, although he does like to monitor the Ipad as he and his sister share one and they have a set time limit every day to play on it.

But somewhat misses the "as opposed to quartz" requirement in the OP.

I'd second the Seiko5 based SNK80x model, having picked up a sand coloured one (cheapest of the colours) a few months back for about £50. It has a clear back so he can watch the movement and includes Day Date. The strap is not bad and would likely go down small enough to fit a 10 year old (it fits my 16.5 cm wrist with holes to spare). Currently £46 on Amazon UK

10 years old, can't he just check the time on his iPhone, most kids seem to have them biggrin

Not sure he will want a mechanical watch for £50. These are quartz, but waterproof and good looking:

thank you for all of your suggestions. I like the Seiko idea, but I'll show him some pictures of them over the weekend. Being 10, he'll probably be tempted with the digital 'G' watches, since they have lots of buttons and functions etc. I'd be more inclined to go with the Seiko because of the clear case back!
Thanks once again

Saw one today for £49.99 a "Tavistock & Jones Radio Controlled Multi-band Atomic Watch", looks pretty nice AND its accurate to ONE SECOND in 138,000,000 years (you read it right, 130 million years).

What more can a man ask for biggrin

My son had a small G-shock style digital with a light bright enough to use in the blitz and enough buttons to confuse his Dad. He lost it first week back at school. On this basis I would go for the cheapest thing you can find!

I bought him this Seiko 5 in blue and also have him my watchwinder as my wife bought be a 4 watch winder. It's kept perfect time and looks great but he has to wear a sweatband to pad out his wrist!

Great little watches; and the winder is a super bonus.
