After convincing myself a long time ago that I don't need another watch as I have a casual stainless and a dress gold watch I have stumbled upon the "need" to purchase a used Roger Dubuis Sports Activity Watch.

The used values of these seem to be very reasonable compared to other brands of (what I think) are of a similar quality.

People's opinions and thoughts on the brand and perceived quality would be hugely appreciated.

I came close to getting one some years ago when they were independent - i liked the style but at the time the cost was more than I could afford

Since that point they have been acquired by one of the larger brand owning groups, have taken a style direction that doesn't work to my eye, added some halo models at very high cost, started to cancel their distribution deals and open their own stores and generally moved into a sphere of the watch world that at least so far seems to have increased the speed at which they depreciate (check out the values on the main reselling sites - as I see it they now track brands like Franck Muller) -personal taste of course but I would not see that as good news for medium term residuals

That said if you like the watch and can afford it , go for it

Thanks for the reply. I hadn't realized they were no longer independent. I haven't really been looking at watches for a few years so am not up to date on these things.

Still thinking about buying it however, it is best to know these things before parting with any cash.

Investment made by Richemont back in 08 as far as I understand it - back then it was sold as a partial but majority interest not a full acquisition - not necessarily a bad thing - most of the watch makers are owned by larger groups these days
