"Normal"?! How very dare you! I had better get out there and buy some fake AP's / Hublots so that people think I am better than "normal" ;-)

Im confused. I have a Rolex GMT2 which I was given as a present for my 21st birthday from my parents (over 10 years ago, yikes!). I earn more than the £30-£40k but less than the required £150k.

To confuse things further I bought a Panerai a few years ago on 0% finance, as why wouldn't you use someone elses money if available for nothing...

I also bought an Omega Seamaster as a complete impluse buy from (whisper it), a pawn shop, but this time just on debit card as there was no finance incentive obviously.

So, am I a wannabe, a chav, poor, rich....???

OP, please help pigeon hole me on lifes success ladder.
So as long as something is on 0% finance it is worth buying...?? You must still be living at home with your parents Lol

Rule of thumb, your car should not cost you more than 10% of your net worth.

No, that's not what I said at all you mong. Why not leave the money in the bank if someone is willing to lend it at 0%? Makes perfect sense I'm sure to everyone else.

Living with parents??!! Ha, yeah good one! The only house of theirs I use is the one in Key Largo thanks!

I know I am feeding the troll, but had a cr@ppy day, so good fun to find someone to vent at / wind up to release a bit of steam.....

So why should your depreciating asset be 10% of your net worth, but a Rolex, which long term will appreciate, be just 3.33% of your annual salary ?

Not thought this through very well have you? Not for the first time.

As I said, cr@ppy day so glad to find somewhere to vent....

It's amazing how your replies have no actual meaning to the bits you quote. Must nearly be time for bed surely?

A different example: A friend of mine just took over stewardship from his parents of a small stately home / estate which is open to the public. I take it you wouldn't be seen dead living in one of these either as he was "given it"?! Where do you draw the line?

The purpose of luxury watches isn't just to show off. Some people do actually like them for what they are. It's not the direction I have taken with my collection, but I understand why people do.

A person earning £35K may well have more disposable income than someone on £150K if the kids have left home and the mortgage is paid off and they may as well spend that money on something they enjoy. A well made watch will last several lifetimes and can be passed down as a keepsake. I wish I had one of my grandfathers watches, but as he only ever wore cheap watches they would have been binned and replaced when they broke or probably just needed a service.

By the way, you will impress and garner a lot more respect from people if you tell them you just gave £10K to a good charity rather than spending £10K on what 90% of people will see as a trinket.

There is a huge difference between EARNING it and being given it, but only those of us who have earned it know it.

In my view a luxury watch is a status symbol worn by those who have been successful in life. A rolex tells time just like a seiko or a casio. The difference is prestige that's all. So by buying a rolex you are making a statement of your success, but too many are liers.

My view differs, which is why I wouldn't be seen dead in a modern sports Rolex.

LOL!

Couple of points...

1. Looking back through your previous posts, all you seem to do is post responses to threads from the Supercar section - you've never actually provided any proof that you live the life you elude to. If you do indeed live this life then fair enough however in that case you must be a right dhead. Given your attitude, I'd also assume that you struggle to hold down any kind of real relationship - be that friends, partners, family etc. My sympathies therefore for being a lonely bugger.

2. All of the truly wealthy people I know have absolutely no interest in the financial activities of others unless it affects them directly. As such, either you have little/no net worth and/or you are an individual who needs to criticise others to make himself feel better - bit pathetic really.
