Question for the Rolex experts, 1969 manufacture.

I recently started to look for a birth year watch, and as I have not yet done the Rolex thing I am drawn to a 69 Sub or GMT.

However I am yet to see a single 1969 model of either a Sub or a GMT.

Is this because of the Red Sub dates of manufacture ?, or is there some other reason.

(which obviously does not explain the lack of GMTs from 69)

I was about to say I have a '69 gmt available but I've just checked and it's 68!
Just keep looking, one will crop up, if its a birth year rolex you're after then better off getting one that's exactly what you desire, ie right patina or refurbed etc depending what you want!
