Personally i would go for a G Shock. Loads to choose from and fairly bombproof.

They're quite "trendy" nowadays so it wouldn't be a bad idea.

G Shock for my son as well although he is now 17 and seems to have graduated to my Tissot Visodate! I would also take a look at Citizen and Seiko on Creation. There are some nice looking diver watches on there for around your budget which should be pretty sturdy.

I'D ALSO RECOMMEND A G-SHOCK.

G-Shock is a good shout, or how about one of those funky new automatic Swatches? Sistem 51, I think they're called. I seem to recall they were a smidge under £110

I bought a g shock for my nephews 18th - he was very pleased with it . Was around 60 quid after a good discount ( mail ordered from a shop in Chelmsford ).

I'd be quite tempted by this if I were in the market for another G: http://amzn.to/YCiZ6Z

Depends what he wants.

When I was 13, I was given a Rotary Swiss Army watch, which I swapped onto different straps for different things. Lasted me until I was 18. Most of the time it was on a leather Animal strap for school, but could be upgraded to a posh leather for family weddings etc. or downgraded to a nato or fabric Animal strap for beach or mountain biking. Wore it every day for five years, eventually died when I went over a waterfall and smashed it on a rock.

So yeah, my recommendation would be a sort of "Swiss Army" type thing that can be a jack of all trades. G-Shocks are great, but sometimes you want something posher than a great bit hunk of plastic on your arm.

How about a Seiko? So many designs to choose from, but they have something for everyone, and in this price range some are autos too.

If he likes big and bold, check out a seiko monster

I'm not a fan of G-Shocks, so I'd caution against an automatic purchase of one.

A Seiko Diver will be in range, with some clever shopping and more stylish than the "Transformer" look of a G-Shock (I know they do some more conventional ones, but not for £100!). I got a Citizen 300M Eco-Drive diver for £130 in a high street jewellers, so you might not want to discount them.

Of course, if he likes gadgety lumps of plastic (and many do) a G-Shock is JUST the thing smile

My 17 year old son seems to like Chronographs - He broke the Lorus we bought him some years back (jumping from a bus, don't ask!) and now wears a Sekonda.

Both were WELL under £100 (the Sekonda was under £50).

I know I'm not really answering the OP's question, but I've 3 sons & on the eldests 18th he got my Tag Heuer Aquaracer.

This was replaced with an Aquaracer Alarm which my 2nd son got for his 18th, & my youngest will get my Carrera Calibre 5 on his 18th.

Then I'll buy myself a Rolex Milgauss & they can squabble over that when I'm dead.

I suppose the point of it all is that rather than just buy them a new watch, they'll all have one of their old fellas watches, which they'll hopefully pass on to their own sons.

This will be the one for me when my boys get that old - http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_tr...

British Army issue watches - bound to be reliable / strong and a talking point.

GShock too common and boring.

CWC - check them out in Silvermans as well. Cheapest on ebay though - smile
