I'm not particularly clued up in this regard, so would really appreciate some suggestions. Criteria as follows:

Waterproof to at least 50m.
Good value.
No odd/strange/frequent maintenance regime.
Not one of those huge watches I've seen, I have a Seiko whose diameter is about 42mm to the outside of the bezel, a size that I find quite acceptable.
Nice & functional.
Max £3000.
Available for immediate purchase.
Probably not a Rolex/Omega/similar brand that I am already very aware of.
Durable - more than capable of coping with daily wear & tear & the odd spot of hard labour.

Thanks in advance.

Sinn or breitling but Sinn looks more interesting. I personally like IWC but not sure if they are in 3k ranges anymore

I suggest you take a look at Damasko http://www.pageandcooper.com/watches-3/damasko-wat...

Extremely tough, good-looking, highly respected watches, and starting at around 1/3rd of your budget..

Tool watch - read the gumph on the web site - a no nonsense watch.

Apparently these also come with two rubber straps, including a longer one to be worn over a wetsuit, which is interesting.

I've had a look at the Damasko range & quite like the DC56 & DC56Si, not sure how waterproof compliance with DIN8310 means they actually are though.

I had a look at the Offshore watch earlier, but it's not designed to be worn under water, otherwise I would have purchased.

How wet do you want to get it? The Offshore is 10ATM rated.

I'd also suggest Marathon, which are available from the same site

I have the CSAR, which is bigger than you want at 46mm, but they do smaller options. Other than maybe Sinn & Damasko, I doubt there are tougher watches

Ta. Quite like the look of the GSAR.

Possible occasional scuba diving use, so 18m/19ATM or so short term, to max of probably 40m in future. The watch might never go to 40m, but it will be nice to have the option.

I think in this instance 10 ATM is 10 x ATM pressure? So circa 10m per ATM. Thus 100m waterproof? May be wrong though.

If that's correct, it could really sway me towards the Offshore, & maybe one or two others.

I've just had another glance at the Pelagos & have never been a massive fan of that look, but am finding it's fairly uncluttered style attractive.

Yep, you're correct.

I fancy this & the Pelagos now.

Offshore Pro & Pelagos ordered.

I also fancy either a Damasko or Marathon. I have a Sinn sat in a drawer in need of repair, but I need to experience their customer service before proceeding any further.

Thanks for all the help & advice everyone.

The Pelagos does look lovely....
Offshore Professional Field Engineer, I'm wearing mine today and so many people ask about it, great piece of kit, enjoy them both.

Depends if you want a watch to dive in or just one that's up to the odd dive.

I wouldn't, personally, want to take 3 grands worth of watch into the ocean, it'd be too easy to snag or lose it somewhere. I've got a £130 Citizen for those dives!

If you want something up to the job, there's plenty in the < £3K range, but I'd direct you towards a Sinn 103 personally. I've a 203 Arktis and it's glorious, but I've not dived in it (and probably never will).

I've taken my Longines Hydroconquest down to 30M in warm, clear water. Great watch and WELL under a grand...
