My wife's 40th is coming up and I would like to have a ring made for her. We were less than impressed by our local jeweler who didn't seem to be all that interested, and then quoted at the top of our budget range (funny that). They were quite derogatory about her wanting a topaz as it's a 'cheap' stone and wouldn't she rather have aquamarine? The thing is it's her birthstone and that's what she wants... Anyway, I'd rather give the business to somebody who is a bit more enthusiastic to do the job...

What Mrs Skoff would like is a white gold ring with a large blue topaz (not too blue, but not wishy-washy) about 15mm x 10mm. She'd like the setting quite simple, but delicate (if that is possible with such a big stone!). The jeweler we spoke to suggested a 4 claw double gallery setting. Apparently Kirsty Allsop has something similar (be careful googling 'Kirsty Allsop's ring' if you are at work) which was the inspiration, but my wife doesn't want diamonds around the stone, just the stone on its own.

Are there any PH jewelers that could make such a thing who would like to pm me to discuss? I won't mention budget to start with as I'd like to know what such a design would cost without the prejudice of a figure in mind. Of course we know it won't be a cheap ring, but I'm keen to pay a fair price.

Thanks all!

A bit late to the table, but here's another vote for Eddie. He did a custom setting for an awkward diamond for us recently and his work is spot on smile

Seems only right, given all the work you display on your primary thread. Never had a requirement to use your expertise, but given the quality of the work in your photos and the recommendations of those that have, seems fair to at least get your name mentioned

Whens the next update to the "Interesting job on the Bench"

I have just gone through a similar process and had an engagement ring made. I actually used someone quite local, recommended by a friend, I am over the moon with the end result and I am pretty fussy! His name is Paul Newton and he is based Malmesbury http://www.paulnewtongoldsmith.com

His work is bespoke, but he does have a few pieces on display in his workshop.

Thanks guys. Like buses, you get no PH customers for ages and then 3 in one day. PH win!

I can highly recommend Brian Gavin Diamonds in Amarica. They were recommended from here and their service was excellent for a bespoke ring. After a few design changes the ring was amazing. Friendly and efficient service and were very good with how to get the money sent.

I'll see what interesting items I get over the coming days and put something together. Trying to find something without covering old ground is difficult. Any (sensible) suggestions as to what you might want to see?

Hi all, thanks for all the input. We've asked Eddie to make the ring for us, he's really really helpful, and filled us with confidence that he's going to do a fantastic job. Also love the work on the Interesting jobs thread...

I'd just like to give ecain63 a huge public thank you! My wife is delighted with the ring and she has had a huge number of compliments. It really is beautifully made and you got it done so quickly too.

Thanks Eddie, you did a fantastic job, I would recommend you to anybody in a heartbeat...

No probs. As per the other thread, a total pleasure.
