Is this a good price? Or would you recommend something else?

I used to have an original Heuer - it was my Fathers watch, he was an Army Diver and it was quite nice. I spent some money getting it restored - and to cut a long story short it was stolen by a crazy ex girlfriend. I've decided to treat myself to something nice - I've currently got my old Army G-Shock, and also a watch that I use as a heart rate monitor. So I'm not exactly good at this.
I'm not flash, but do want something a bit nice. Something which I can take care off and keep for a long time. I also want something I can be a little proud off if that doesn't sounds a bit soft. I won't be reselling it, but I don't want to pay well over the odds either.
So is that good? Or could I do better for my money?

Some will agree, some will disagree but on the whole I would personally avoid TAG - they make some great looking pieces, on occasion they use some great movements (like a Zenith EP - they are owned by the same parent company) but this is an ordinary case (bordering on oversized) housing a non-chronometer rated Valjoux 7750. It is the epitome of ordinary.
Again some (one!) will disagree but the money might be better spent on a classic Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch or a Zenith El Primero of any description. Consider pre-owned rather than new and you get twice as much watch for your budget.
The Carrera you have posted above is generally found around the 1100-1200 mark second hand if you absolutely positively have to. I had one once, bought it, didn't wear it even once as it was so uninspiring and sold it back to the same guy - who loved it, so we're not all the same!

Thanks yeti - that was the sort of advice I was after.
I am cautious about going second hand. As watches really aren't my thing, and I wouldn't know if I was buying the real deal or something sold for £10 in turkey. Also whilst I really don't mind if it's second hand - I don't want something all scratched and battered. Small imperfections are fine - but this is meant to be a nice watch.
I'll have a look at other brands. I was really thinking either Omega or Tag as they seemed like the best "nice" watches in my budget.
All the movement stuff wen't straight over my head - but I'll take your word for it.

I'd agree with Yeti. You can get really good (well made, highly respected, tough) watches for around that money from brands like Damasko and Sinn. Like this one for instance http://www.pageandcooper.com/damasko-dc56-buckle/ Well worth a browse at least.
don't worry too much about the second hand issues; have a look at some of the reputable dealers that are mentioned around these parts.
you'll also see a wide variety of brands and styles in one place. these guys know their stuff and all come with warranty and the suchlike; most of us on here have bought from at least 2 or 3 main dealers without you having to venture to teh likes of fleabay.
happy hunting.
ps. another vote for the Omega that Yeti mentioned. pretty much a guarantee that someone will mention it whenever this question is asked as it does tick lots of boxes for the majority of watch fans at that budget.

Or http://www.chronomaster.co.uk/sinn/watches/showall for the most sensible watch choice for a number of years now, you don't get your pants pulled down paying for boutiques, you won't have terrible customer service (TAG - I look at you...), you won't have to invest an arm and a leg but you'll end up with something as good as any of them. Big choice of types, sizes and features to suit all tastes and budgets, but they are all (most anyway!) sensible choices.
