Evening all,

I am looking at watches for the OH as a Christmas pressie.

We are doing some house stuff which is our gift to each other but I wanted to get her something to open on the day.

She isn't really into watches but could do with a new one and I spotted this,

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Raymond-Weil-Tango-Ladies-...

what do people think? worth the money or not really?

Advice greatfully received,

It may be almost half price but £500 is still a lot for a quartz watch. I suggest you either buy a £100 Seiko or double the budget and get a Longines or second hand Omega. Womens watches do not hold their value, if you're happy to go second hand you'll be amazed at what you can get.

Thanks MG,
I'll bear the above advice in mind.
Not sure the OH would like a preloved watch, although I agree it probably is a much better financial proposition. I don't fancy doubling the budget much though as it's really a little something to open on xmas day rather than a "main" present as such.

I can think of plenty of quartz watches that would be considerably more than that, and worth buying, but that one not so much.

It's not really a particularly special brand and to my eyes not especially attractive, however, it isn't for me so that shouldn't worry you.

It seems a lot to spend "on a little something to open on the day" and I certainly agree that Seiko would be worth a look. You will find that a lot of ladies watches are quartz just because of their size.

Thanks, I have found that sometimes taking the time to post on PH and then get a response avoids "one click purchase" on Amazon.

General feedback seems there is better to be had so I will keep looking,

If she's not "into watches" and this is just a token to open, then consider looking at Seiko or Citizen.

Both are respected, a non-watchy person will probably be more aware of the brands, and both will be considerably easier to keep maintained in the future. Both also do styles very similar to the RW that caught your eye starting from around the £100 - £150 mark upwards.
