My wife bought me a Breitling Colt 44 with black face/black leather strap for my 40th, very understated looking watch which works well with either a suit for work or smart casual at weekend.

I too was looking at Omega's but they were over budget for the ones I liked.

Good luck with the search.

If you like going to air shows, the Breitling will give you access to their VIP tent.

ou of the two I would edge towards the Brietling, however would prefer something like a Skyland... Personal preference

But for a meaningful classic timeless really type watch, to keep...... what about a Omega Moonie?

Personally, I'd decide what type of watch I prefer (diver, dress etc) and then look for which brand attracts you the most.

My preference was a Breitling for my last big birthday but this will most likely change by my next one.

I chose not to buy a Tag or Omega purely because my two workmates at the time wore them.

It's all about what catches your eye I suppose.

If it's a choice between the two then go for the one that tugs at your heart strings the most when you try it on, if you're looking for something for your 40th and something that'll be for keeps then nothing else matters.

I've got both. I know Breitling are often seen as a bit tacky and footballerish by some, but I love them. Can be a bit flash and gaudy, but I don't care, I just enjoy them. As for Omega, well I like my planet ocean an awful lot, but there's a lot of their watches I just don't click with, most in fact. I'm sure I'll be tarred and feathered for saying it but I think they're comparable to Tag, and these days priced way OTT. Clearly those who buy them don't agree; evidence as if it were needed that it really couldnt be more down to personal opinion.

TLDR - buy what you like!

Omega is the one I still have, having owned both.

I've also gone black, blue, black and now back to blue. Never could make up my mind.

Only pics I have of mine which don't help very much but I'm now very much in the blue camp!

For me it would be Breitling, I have a Navitimer and and Super Ocean Heritage 42 on Black Leather, the Navi was bought appx 14 years ago and the SOH 42 a couple of months ago, I did look carefully before buying that SOH 42 but couldn't find anything that I liked as much for the money, Omega included, and I'm not a brand we, my watches range from the Breitling to Raymond Weil to G-Shocks and Ebels, I buy what I like and what I think offers me value.

Both are nice watches but personally I think the Omega Seamaster with the wave dial looks better with the blue face rather than the black (though I may be biased).

If you go for the Breitling with a leather strap then I recommend you go for the folding clasp option rather than the tang-type clasp as this will leave your strap looking 'as new' for much longer.

Well guys ...........I have been doing some reserach what a mistake,
I think know I would like either a speedmaster love the legend series white /red brown dial or even mark 2 the new one is out of my price range but how about a vintage.
Or just a speedmaster pro on a leather sport strap
Any opinions on the above cheers

I have a Speedy Pro and a Pelagos and would choose either over a Seamaster or a Brietling. I'm not a fan of the Brietling dials as the y can look too busy. The Speedy Pro probably offers more combinations than the Pelagos. The Speedy can be worn on the bracelet with a suit, on a plain leather strap for dressy occasions, on a perforated leather strap with jeans or on a NATO for the tool look. The Speedy is a real classic and has a great history. Go for the original with the manual wind and the hesalite.

If the worst happens and you don't like it after a while, you will be able to re-sell it and not lose too much. Most ADs should be able to match the prices being offered by Iconic and the like.
