I'm currently on Holiday on Tenerife and out of curiosity popped into the Rolex dealer in Playa De Las Americas to ask the price of the new Sea Dweller. I was informed it was 8550 euros. I thought with the island being "duty free" the Rolexes might be cheaper.

Does anyone know if that is the standard European price?

Many Thanks

Just be careful, there are a lot of rouge shops in Tenerife. Make sure they are listed on the Rolex website as suppliers.

I tried sitting in the Blancpain store in Zermatt and drinking their champagne. Ended up me and my pal buying one each as the hottie behind the counter had hollow legs and got us wasted!

I thought it was strange when she said (at 10AM) she 'was just about to open a bottle of Champagne, why don't you join me?'

Getting 20% off a Breitling and 30% off a Tag isn't unheard of. Rolex are a different beast though, you wont get 20% off a new one anywhere, even if you work for a AD. Up to 10% on a Precious Metal model or possibly 2-3% off a stainless steel sports model is about the best you'll get.

I was just asking because I thought they might have the standard European price but with the lower VAT rate the Canaries enjoys, leading to a discount of 10-15% over the price in mainland Spain for example.

yes its not a discount as such its 'less tax' - If you go to Switzerland you can do the same - claim the 'Swiss VAT' back at the airport. Which of course you then pay on entry into the UK.

I got 10% off my stainless steel Milgauss GV in 2010 without even asking and 15% when I said I'd pay on a debit card

Be nice and ask, nothing to lose.

Much easier to get a discount on a Breitling than a Rolex

Which Goldsmiths was this? I was refused any discount (on a cash purchase) on a date Sub about 4 months ago..
Guy said they're unable to give discounts on Rolex's :S.

hehe

I remember being on a flight and ending up buying some after shave and a mont blanc pen after some hosties were cooing over me and telling me how they REALLY liked the smell of the after shave they were trying to flog.

I also remember the disapproving looks from my girlfriend when she came back from the toilet and they were leaning over me, in their tight blouses, smelling my (sales target achieving) new scent.
