I don't own a Pelagos yet, but I have been seriously considering one for a while now. The dial clarity and simplicity, the dull titanium finish and the superb attention to details all appeal to my taste. At 42mm the size is just right for me and that clasp is very clever. Great photos robbiekhan that really illustrate those details. It's only a matter of time until I give in a buy one!

I'll have had mine for two years this February. Been my most worn watch for sure. The clasp and bracelet is showing some marking/desk diving which is typical of daily use. I've also managed to knock the bezel a few times and put some light scratches on it but nothing serious. Just the perfect, understated, functional and comfortable watch for everyday wear. And very good value for money.

Cheers!

The Black Bay in red really is stunning looking, a shade smaller in case size to the Pelagos too. If the Pelagos didn't exist in the form it is at (Ti, completely tool aesthetic) then I'd have been sold on the BB for sure smile

I wish I hadn't looked in this thread. I've been looking at the Pelagos and Black Bay in the window of the local jewellers recently and really like them. There's been no watch purchase yet for 2014....perhaps it's not too late.

I had the exact same dilemma a couple of weeks ago. I too ended up with a Red Black Bay. Stunning watch!

If I wasn't facing the prospect of having to pay £3k to a robbing bd of an estate agent, it would be a done deal already. Let's see how the visit to the small claims court goes tomorrow....

If there's one complaint I've read about the Pelagos it has been that the clasp is rather large (long). It is a clever thing for sure, but for apparently for those with slightly smaller wrists the clasp can look and feel rather long across the underside of the wrist and not hug the wrist shape.

This is only what I have read and obviously not a problem experienced by all owners. Would anyone here care to comment on this?

I have a small wrist, probably circa 6 1/4" which is quite flat as opposed to being round. I have no problems with the Pelagos bracelet. Yes, the clasp on the bracelet is slightly longer than other diving style clasps but it is gently curved so hugs the wrist perfectly.

The micro adjustment is fantastic as is the attention to detail.

But not quite. You should buy one. I know it tickled your fancy.

Corrected for you wink

If you like the Pelagos, you should check out the Tutima DI300 too thumbup It's the thinking man's Pelagos: outstanding build quality, but without the emerging ubiquity of the Pelagos. The quality of Tutima's titanium work and build are utterly superb.

Worth comparing and contrasting the two watches, before making a final choice.

Had a look online and the tutima doesn't wet my appetite. Not a watch I'd like to look at on my wrist.

Quite so. Just imagine having to look at one of these on your wrist tongue out

Hideous, aren't they? laugh

In all seriousness, I've tried both the Pelagos and DI300: I found them to be equally high quality. Tutima has a reputation for toughness and over-engineered build quality, but I suspect the only real difference between the DI300 and Pelagos is personal taste.

Also, if you keep an eye out for a pre-loved DI300, there are some absolute bargains to be had. A used DI300 is well worth considering wink

Nice, the Tutima, even if the appeal is a bit less immediate;

So perhaps more traditionally cased but keeping the all matt finish, starkly simple dial & focused design queues of the Pelagos but adding a 60' chronograph function...

Andy, I like yours and it's not a Tutima I've seen before. Which model is it?

The appeal could be less immediate, because you need to wear a Tutima to appreciate the very high build quality. The quality of Tutima's titanium casework, for example, is flawless. That's impossible to see online.

Also, some watches aren't always photogenic, even though they can look good on the wrist. (And visa versa. We've all seen watches that look great online, but disappoint on the wrist.)

It's an ex-issued one, specifically made for a German unit (ZUZ), the base is the Commando II, but the unit specified a 60min bezel in addition. It's seen about ten years wear and still holds together very well.
