To add some perspective, I had Steinhart (Ocean Vintghe) and SD/Sub. I wore the Steinhart once on a trip to Cape Town, came home and sold it. It made me sad. Not that it wasn't a lovely watch, substantial, beautifully made and so on, I just looked at it and thought I wished I had my Rolex on. Irrational, but factual.

So actually, you're wrong as you fail to understand that people are different. You might wear it, you might not.
If anything you prove that i'm not wrong. Not only did you wear the Steinhart at least once. At some point you made the decision to buy/beg/borrow or steal the Steinhart despite owning a SD/Sub. I fully understand people are different.

It's a different ownership experience. most people buy a Rolex with the intention of it being kept forever. I would bet most people (like myself and you) buy a Steinhart believing we will wear it for a while, enjoy it then shift it on for a negligible loss then do the same again with those proceeds. I often get more enjoyment doing this more than I do looking at the Rolex on my wrist.

I'd say the OP falls into the bracket of being happy with one watch which he will treasure and therefor i believe he made a good choice.

Will wait until later - I work in an open-plan office, so my colleagues may think I'm weird(er) if I start taking photos of a watch in a green box.....

just sent a certain Mr H an inordinate (for me) amount of money, in exchange for something to tell the time with.....

next question for the hardened collectors on here - how does one effectively and convincingly explain to SWMBO that its not really what it looks like?

her boss wears a Rolex, so she's fully aware of what they are and what they cost - can I claim its a "damn good replica"?
You could tell her you bought it with the proceeds of a Fiat Coupe you sold for £7.5k,but she probably wouldn't believe that either! tongue out

She was aware of that car, as it took me two days to clean and polish it, but seeing as it was Motormech's car, not mine, she'll undoubtedly know that I couldn't have made THAT much out of it

After wearing a titanium Skagen for the last couple of weeks, I was surprised how heavy the Sub is, but I've been wearing it since I pulled it out of the box yesterday and I'm used to it already

Shaky image

What's the small, rectangular etching on the case? - can't say I've ever seen that before - I can see the etched crown at the six o'clock point though

It's a sticker, you seem to have left the protective plastics on.

Lol - so I have....

Strewth - even the protective stickers are such high quality that they are pretty much invisible

I'll have a read of the "how to photograph a watch" thread and see if I can take something a bit better
