there have been reasonable confidence leaks happening for months. This is a marked departure for Apple as the information was guarded with ridiculous success historically with new product releases and you generally wouldn't see anything till launch day. The last couple of phone releases have mysteriously been leaking to the major fansites etc way in advance, and haven't been inaccurate either. I reckon Apple are the instigators and it is a conscious viral marketing ploy. A bit like how all the car manufacturers just put stupid patterned wraps on cars on mules of new models and drive round cities to generate lots of 'sneak preview amazing scoops' in the press. I find it astonishing that there aren't more leaks.
Consider how difficult it must be to prevent the escape of details of new products that are already in mass scale production with associated marketing media.
There is no question of surprise here. Everyone knows what the product is, who has designed it, who is building it, who is shipping it and where and when it will be sold.
And yet, so little gets out. Remarkable.
