I've had my tag Moto gp for about 18 months before sending it off under warranty for what I assumed was a flat battery. It is apparently a "full mechanism repair".
The watch has been gone for 2 months so far and is not currently due back for a further 3 weeks.
I love the watch and will be keeping it, but I'm a bit concerned as to the extent of repair work it requires. I'm assuming this would also be all kinds of expensive once I'm out of warranty.
Anyone know if this is normal, and is there anything I can do about it? Could I buy an extended warranty anywhere for instance?
Thanks in advance.

It's almost certainly a Ronda 5040D movement in your watch. Our current replacement charge for that movement (ie: complete new genuine movement, with new battery, pressure testing and a fresh 12 month guarantee) as an independent repairer is £125. Obviously, through TAG the cost is a little higher...

Whether or not that counts as "all kinds of expensive" and worth paying for an extended warranty against is something only you can really decide.

Not at all, but it does count as a solution. Bookmarked your site for next time I goes wrong. Thanks!

You're welcome smile

Just don't be too surprised or confused if you follow the bookmark and find yourself looking at something completely different - I've finally started on a long overdue complete re-write of our site so it looks a little less 1990's biggrin

I cant think of a good reason to go to Duval (LVHM/TAG Heuer) rather than to Joe for this or anything like it.

I might as well ask this here Joe: are you familiar with stopwatches, particularly Heuers and can you get new crystals made for a reasonable price?

I also have a Breitling:

Which Id like servicing and fitting with a new crystal, if possible. I have so many pieces that need work I don't know where to start...

Thanks for the vote of confidence again smile

If the Heuers have round crystals then should be able to either order them or do them from stock. Mechanically they're pretty straightforward - no worse than a super-sized Speedy but without the extras like time & date smile

Crystals are no problem, most crowns (winders) are available too, as are the case pipes that the crown screws down on. Turnaround would normally be about a week smile

Good Sir, apologies for the tardiness of my reply, I had assumed the thread ended after Variomatics post.

Regretfully I cannot support your recommendation at this time as it would seem to demean the effort your wife put into selecting the Tag wink

Seriously though, I'd love a sub, but the Tag was a present from my Mrs to celebrate our daughter being born. She'd likely question what other occasion I may be celebrating with the purchase of a Rolex, and also if I had declared all of my income to her!

And can you tell me here (for ease) what sort of price a 50-odd mm crystal would cost ready-made and made especially.

With them being relatively cheap I might opt for a square higher domed crytal for the 12hr Breitling.

Miniman, pm sent.

GC8, standard domed acrylic in 50mm - the biggest available without going into clock style ones - would work out at £25 inc fitting and insured post back (less per glass if 2 or more at once because of the shared post).

Special cut would need to be seen to estimate but they're relatively expensive.

High dome only go to 40mm now even for pocket watches!
