Seiko 6139-6002 'Pogue' range and options available?
Discussion
Hi People,
Does anyone have any specific knowledge on what options there were for Seiko Chronograph ‘Pogues’ in the early to mid 70s?
I own of these myself which was my Dads (Seiko data of Jan 72) but have noticed there are varying colour options, even slight differences on the same colour options, such as;
Gold face with ‘Water 70m resistant’ near 9pm on the face.
Gold face without the ‘Water 70m resistant’ lettering near 9pm on the face.
Gold face but with a more white/off white inner-bezel instead of the same gold colour as the face
Then there are other colour options, namely the;
Black face/Black inner-bezel
Silver face/Black inner-bezel
Black face/Silver inner-bezel
Blue face/White inner-bezel
Now I know there are lots of Frankenstein Pogues out there, made up on new and NOS parts from different watches which may account for some of this, but I wondered if anyone actually knows which options were actually sold by Seiko and which ones are part watches.
I’d be particularly interested if anyone knows why the first two gold watches differ, why do some have ‘Water 70m resistant’ on them and some don’t. Was this just a standard manufacturer change to the model, or was there any specific reasons?
Thanks for your time all! Much appreciated.

It's been a while since I looked at these but seem to remember early ones had the dial script (and a slightly different case).
There were lots of permutations and variations across the whole range, plus some were domestic (Japan) only models; best to hunt around the net, there are a few good threads on these out there iirc including old catalogue pictures.

All the early 70s Seikos are getting collectible, and asking prices are shooting up. They've doubled in the last year. Not sure about selling prices though.
A huge number have been refurbished though, and its difficult to know who is selling kosher ones.
I'd love a 6138 Panda or a Bullhead.

The white is just a faded yellow. The dial varies with market/year. Water Resist seen alongside Water Proof; some have notched cases above the crown, others have a flushed crown - the link above is very good.
Beware non-original hands as well - devil's in the detail. Also check the inner bezel rotates with the crown, as the plastic gear can sometimes be bust and is hard to replace.
