I've got the same situation for my upcoming nuptials in September. I l've been looking at very similar models and am looking for a steel bracelet and black/silver combo. I'm swaying towards the Rolex's and possibly a slightly used one from a well known watch website.

Good points. Not wedded to either, they're just ideas. Maybe it's not possible to choose one watch for both things! I do fancy a divers/sports watch and I also like the idea of a dress watch. Of the hunting around I've done, I like jaeger le coultre, junghans, glashutte, IWC... But I'm aware that's all a bit non-specific. I'm going to go try some things on this Sat!
Well, as you've mentioned one that might just do the job of both, I'd highly recommend you go see it in person. The Wempe store on Bond St (I presume you're London based or bound) should have it.
What you're looking for is the Glashutte Original Seventies.

When you try on a Deep Sea, make sure you walk about the shop in it.

The reason I say this is I wanted one for ages but when I went to try it on before purchasing, the weight was all over the place (sue to the massively heavy case) and felt really unbalanced on my wrist.

I'd convinced myself I wanted a DeepSea, after trying it on, they are just massive, and as said above, not that well (in my opinion) balanced.

I ended up going for a second hand SeaDweller, I liked the look of the non ceramic model.

Enjoy what ever you choose.

Agreed. Had been set on the Deepsea until I tried it on and at the same time saw and tried on the new SD. It didn't suit me as I just dont have the wrist girth ... you need wrists like a full-time 'tommy tanker' to make the Deepsea work. IMO.;)

Think that's the deepsea out then! I'm not skinny but hardly four square either. Incidentally I've seen a couple of gold GMTs with a black dial recently. Might be a bit bling but thought looked good.

Tried a sea dweller on today and they're incredible bits of kit. They guy did the props selling job, but I resisted until I've seen a few more tomorrow! Am I right in thinking there's no way to get a discount on a Rolex?

Ok... You mean I'm right there's no way, or I'm wrong there is a way?

Contact DomH (board member); several posters have bought through him & been very happy with the deal.

If you buy from Europe and are willing to do your research you can get a decent discount on a seadweller... Just got a brand new one dated the day I brought it with all seals intact etc for £5200 ish... Think the list price here is £7k. That price included next day shipping and insurance aswell as my fees for The bank transfer.

Brought from a seller via chrono24, has had a shop for 20 years in Madrid, emailed, spoke on phone and got photos sent direct tome....bit not going to lie I was bricking it a bit sending that amount of money via bank transfer with no real protection. Buy the seller not the watch.....other dealers I spoke with on c24 were expecting at least a 4% price increase on all Rolex fyi

Braver than I! I thought the official vendor had to provide evidence of sale including costs, to prevent hefty discounting and intermediaries?

I can't comment on specific models as the assistant got mixed up regarding which watch I was asking about but I was offered £250 discount against a £4,500 Rolex at an Authorised Dealer today and that was before any serious haggling. I was in buying a far cheaper watch for the other half's Valentines and dropped it into conversation expecting a resolute "No".

Not a huge amount in the grand scheme of things but I definitely think I could've got a bit more if I'd pushed the matter.

tried on both a breitling transocean unitime and a superocean heritage today when i was killing time before my meeting in canary wharf. The transocean was ridiculously massive and was so bling it actually offended me a bit. The mesh bracelet would have been better replaced with a different strap i think. The superocean was on a rubber strap and whilst i liked it far more in the end, it was still a little OTT i think. Will post a phone cam wrist shot in a bit. The superocean was considerably cheaper too.

I totally agree about the mesh bracelet it's hideous and to be honest I would rather an Omega over a Blingling and the Tudor Chrono over them both but I am biased as I just got one! wink

After all the previous st I've said I'm going to try on a deepsea at the weekend! Want to see just how big and heavy.
