Hello,

I have a mint blue Monaco and a mint Speedmaster Man on the Moon. I rarely wear them on the weekend going out. My everyday watch is a Rotary version of the Submariner.

I have always wanted a Sea Dweller and love the fact they brought out the new version last year. Also my sister got a Rolex recently and has made me want one even more.

I love the blue Monaco & Speedmaster and like having two watches but I don't know if I would be happier having one Rolex. I am worried I sell the Monaco and see one again in a shop window and want it again. Same with the Speedmaster.

Any help or experience with this.

Not those particular watches but I traded my Exp 2 and Sub for a Day Date. I do miss the Exp 2 as it was a pretty versatile watch however I prefer the DD more. If the Sea Dweller is what you've always dreamed of go for it.

I was chatting with a couple of very wealthy young Arabs yesterday (noted for context as you'd only think they'd be interested in bling - a sad stereotype on my part I fully admit) and both had Solid Gold Royal Oaks on. They noticed I was wearing my 16600 SD and both said it's one of those watches that they'd both love to own but just haven't got round to getting as it's one of the most iconic watches ever made.

I could disagree with their comments hehe

Thank you for your reply. The Sea Dweller is £1k more that a Sub so why pay more because I will never swim or dive more than 300m.

I like the Sea Dweller because it has a discrete date and rarer but is it worth £1k more???

The Seadweller is a true great in the watch world and alot more substantial and unique over a submariner, that said the submariner is also a great great watch, I have a mint seadweller that I am about to put up for sale or trade if any pistonheads fancy it! Having come back from a Rolex service its like new and I cant bear to wear it now as it looks mint.

How much for your watch? what year is it?

To throw a spanner in the works I am also thinking about a Bremont. However I do not know about the quality and resale values of Bremonts.

I guess the question I'd ask is why you've come to a forum to ask about this?

Something's clearly not feeling right about the deal it seems to me.

Personally, I like both the Monaco AND the Speedmaster, but don't have any desire to own a Rolex diver, so it's a 'No' from me smile

I'd have the Sub over the SD. Looks wise there isn't enough variance and the Sub being slightly thinner. I also like the cyclops it's part of the brand IMHO. That and although I'm never likely to be diving anywhere deeper than a couple metres in my local lido the extra depth rating would be wasted on me (I realise the Sub is wasted on lido's but you get the point).

Its only worth £1k more if YOU see the value in owning it. I prefer the SD over the Sub ... I dislike the cyclops and I love the added thickness of the watch over the sub. I don't think many will swim or dive full stop so wouldn't let that sway your decision ... I've just bought an SD 4000 and can tell you it will never see the water! If you want a Rolex sports watch, I would try them all on in a dealers where you can compare and get a feel.

Why buy a 911 rather than a Boxster? Why buy an F12b over a 458? The Sea-Dweller has a lot of extra (predominantly invisible) engineering and wears very differently to the Sub. It's a superior watch in every way, just like the 911 and F12 are superior to the Boxster and 458. But you won't drive them any faster!

(N.B. this is just an analogy)

Very Very true! I would do my best to keep the Rolex away from water. If I owned a watch with a depth rating of 50m I still would not be deeper in water than 3-4m. I suppose you are buying and paying for the quality of the engineering.
