As a "proper" automatic watch fan I've never really done digital but I quite fancy a G-Shock for cycling, gym, knocking about and sailing. I've had a few dedicated digital sailing watches in the past but they have all been rubbish despite being from proper sailing brands. Pushers that siezed/fell out, useless waterproofing, stunningly bad timekeeping (+/- minutes a day which is inexcusable on a digital), or design flaws such as no visible seconds on the normal "time" screen. I've come to the conclusion that a G-Shock is the only make tough enough.

I'm tempted by this...

...however I'm interested to know if the tide graph is any good at all. If it could even tell me the times of HW and LW locally that would be great, but I'm struggling to see how a basic watch like that could possibly know about the intricacies of Solent double tides! Any thoughts?

I also like this one...

...and it seems to make a big thing of the vibration alert. However am I right in saying that you can't have it beeping and vibrating at the same time?

Also, it would be very useful if the timer/countdown would repeat...so when it counted down from say, 3 mins/ 03:00:00, rather than just stopping at 00:00:00 and beeping, it went straight back to 03:00:00 and repeated. Does it do this?

Thanks in advance from a G-Shock virgin!

GShocks are great for sport, there's a good GShock following on PH too, it may be worth posting there too.

Have you tried Garmin Quatix? http://sites.garmin.com/en-GB/quatix/

Meant to be pretty good, tides are meant to work well.

I am going for Yachtmaster Offshore later in the year and am half tempted to have one as a backup.

Cheers chaps

I've ordred a G-Rescue as it seems to have the best compromise of features...will post on the "prawn" thread when it arrives!
