Not read the thread but I'm not really sure why people are bothered what Clarkson thinks. Every 50-something bloke has strong opinions, not many of which you'd agree with. He's just another bloke.

And every motoring forum in the world is full of male 50+ folk who have been there and done it. Many have. Many have not, but hide behind their forum handle. I enjoy some of Clarksons scribing. It's a giggle, like the TV programme was.

As for watches, buy what suits you and what you like/need/can afford....practically or 'blingy' be that a Casio, Swatch, Tag, Rolex, Patek.... My wife bought me a Christopher Ward watch for my birthday. Love it. if I was lucky enough to inherit an old Rolex sub or sea dweller I'd certainly wear it as I think it's a handsome and iconic watch.

he's got loads of cash so can afford a new watch costing tens of thousands probably multiple times a year. He's not having a pop at Rolex so much as the people that buy them, I am sure. In his TV programmes, books and newspaper columns he always does down the type of people that have to save up for one nice thing, and the types of things they tend to buy... he automatically thinks those things are crass and tasteless, like so many dhead rich people do.
