I increasingly finding myself looking at the RM011 Massa. Are these things really as special as the price suggests or over priced hype?

Opinions appreciated.

I am an AP collector but have owned several RM's.

I don't think they are over hyped - they are incredible watches.

Try one on and I'm sure you will agree!

I like them personally... they do however split opinion on the internet - there are not many fans here on PH.

Chris5150 has a few - which all look awesome - but very rare to see out and about.

In all honesty, if I had the money, i would buy one.

I tried a Massa one in Vegas.

It's not my favorite of the RM range, but it is indeed very special IMO. Enough to justify the price, possibly, if you're an RM fan. I am, but there's others I'd take over it.

I'm not a fan. Nothing against them as such they just don't really move me.

I'm currently away from home so don't have anything with me (well apart from my G-Shock Frogman!).

Here's one I took of my Diver a while ago...

...and my Jumbo...

...and here is my favourite G-Shock...

Style-wise I prefer more classical watches like Lange, but RM make the best watches of their style IMO. I know some guys who work for them and so often get to practice my "I'm so happy for you, not jealous at all" face. I have no idea if they hold their value well, but I'd have no problem at all wearing one.

Lovely watches, lot of depth in the dials, so you enjoy looking at them a lot. Yes I like the classics too, have some Lange's/Rolex/Glashuttes etc, but RM is my fave, inparticularly the 002 tourbillon is my favourite. The 11's are lovely too look at, one criticism of them is they are very deep, although comfortable because of the curved case & indeed nice and light ( titanium model )...the 11 is a big watch depth wise, sits high, so prefer the 002 & indeed the 004 is also a nice size, also looks very good from the back!. the 52 is an interesting one also. The 32 again is lovely to look at , has the 'breathing' dial that runs black to white, and lots of depth, but again a big watch....

I do quite like some of them but those screw heads at all different angles on a watch that pricey would drive me mad!

Well you better not buy a watch then if lining up of screwheads is so important. I have a Audemars & a lange pic which shows the same thing. Really I don't think you can expect them to be able to line up screwheads so they are all correct, its more important they are all of the correct tightness!!
The only reason AP bezel screwheads look so nicely lined is because they are effectively fake heads, so they can all line up nicely.

They're not fake, they hold the case together. They line up as they are hex heads in hex recesses on the front. The screw heads on the back don't line up as that is where they are tightened.

Yes I know, I used the word 'fake' in the context of they are not actually screwed in as per the other screws in movements etc, but due to the design ( as you correctly point out ) can be lined up nicely...the point I was trying to make is that it clearly is pretty impossible to line up screw heads in movements due to the nature of tightening them up all to differing tolerences etc

Thanks! I love the gold Jumbo - when I bought it I was concerned it would be too 'bling' but I don't think it is personally smile

No offense to any fans of the brand- but to me this is the ultimate gimmick watch.

Hyped up, relentless celebrity backing, numerouns 'limited editions' named after various athletes, no history or heritage, and to top it all of it's one if the ugliest watches I have ever seen.

Really is ugly as sin.

Most likely to be seen on the wrist of a Chealsea player or overweight Russian wondering around Monaco with his three 23 year old 'girlfriends' in tow.

I have seen them in the flesh and have tried one on out of curiosity to see what they look like on the wrist as with some watches pictures are deceptive-I was not remotely impressed.

The prices don't bother me- there is a market for them at the moment, so if they can sell them at six figure
prices then good luck to them.

I would be surprised if there was still such a demand for them at current prices in 15 years time.

If they are retained by the case, why are they slotted?
