It's a very nice watch, the perspective did look a little funny though.

Totally agree that the photo looks out of proportion. And, I've got remarkably thick skin dispite my girlie wrists. I'm knocking on the door of 18 stone with a BMI approaching triple figures. I'd love to have skinny anything! (Well except dick obviously)

Reading this has made me question my thoughts....

I currently sport this on my arm:

I am also thinking if getting this in the near future:

I can get it at a good price (ie. just under half RRP) - it the movement really that crappy? Or does that apply to the 'lower' tag models only?

My tag totally shart itself not long after I started wearing it. Was weird, would pick up time and lose time. Sent it back and they replaced the whole mechanism. My old seiko i was given for my 21st was spot on in keeping time, the tag isn't as accurate, but I like it.

When I was talking to tag about it's accuracy I did say that tag uses swatch mechanisms, they didn't correct me.

Does anyone know if tag really uses swatch mechanisms?

On the face of the watch it will say Calibre XX. This is the model number of the mechanism. Many are ETA movements which is a company that is owned by Swatch. But, most of the brands have either used Seiko or eta movements over the years. They can modify the movement and claim it to be unique to them. This can be adding their brand or some extreme changes. The double axial Omega is a modified ETA. Swatch also own Omega though along with many other big names.

Tag do use other movements as well. The El Primero from Zenith. This is also used by Rolex in the Daytona. And, the 1887 which is Seiko originally but Tag bought the IP and then modified it enough (in their minds) to claim it to be an in house movement.

I have a Tag Carrera Chrono alongside a few others, including the Zenith El Primero Pilot posted earlier. The Tag has become my default everyday watch over the last five years, it doesn't get an easy life. Nothing has gone wrong, the Eta 7750 movement is nothing special to look at but it works fine. The case and bracelet are just as good, if not better than other watches I've tried in the same price bracket, such as the Omega Speedmaster Pro. My only complaint is that the lume isn't that good. Maybe its the lower end quartz stuff that diminishes the brand?

I bought my Carrera in 2010, when the rrp was £2400, I paid £2000 from an AD without much effort. Since then the price has increased a lot (same as most Swiss watches), I wouldn't buy at the current rrp of £3200 (for the calibre 16, the 1887 is even more), although I see Iconic are selling them new at £2440. I have read that Tag are in the process of renewing their whole range at a lower price point.

BTW The Monaco with the four shock absorbers posted earlier has the Zenith movement I believe.

As for the Carrera's poor lume, the Zenith Pilot makes up for it..

It does. The Tag Caliber 36 is the Zenith El Primero. The 36 refers to 36,000 movements per hour.

I believe the Calibre 17 in my Grand Carrera is a modified ETA movement with a modular chrono movement added.

Good to know the calibre 36 is a zenith movement, so there is no reason why I should be concerned about that I guess.

My Grand Carrera is certainly more accurate than my submariner over time and has stood up to daily use and abuse with no problems.
