Hi,

Long shot but I lost my Seamaster last night in London. Not sure how - wonder if a pin from the bracelet came out and the watch fell off without my noticing.

Have called all the places I went to - no luck. I have reported it to my insurance, and logged as lost on immobilise website, but wonder if there are thoughts on either where to look if it comes up for sale (gumtree ?) or any other tips on finding it assuming someone has found it?

It's a medium size automatic version - model reference is 25518000 from 1999.

Thanks

What a nightmare, and so easily done.

Hope to get it back.

Were you very drunk and befriended by some Romanians who were a bit touchy feely? There's a gang going round preying on drunkards and swiping watches off their wrists without the victims noticing.

A well known trick not just done by the Romanians. Basically a couple of nice chaps will get friendly with you and touchy feely, you know, man hugs etc, then by distraction one of them will have unclasped the watch and had it away. Usually performed on the inebriated.

Be careful out there kids.

Funny, I saw that on BBC TV a few days ago. A gang going round areas well known for upmarket watches.

Their MO is exactly as you describe, one guys gets really friendly, as the other slips your watch off. Might be worth reporting it, as the Met seemed very keen to stamp this kind of thing out.

Exactly that happened to a friend of mine on Berkeley Square on New Years Eve.
£6k of uninsured Cartier gone.

OP - as mentioned, did you have an experience of having some over friendly strangers giving you man hugs and shaking your hand and such?

I also saw that article on TV with footage of these characters slipping watches off people without them knowing.

If it was lost in London, then obviously it will have been handed in to the nearest police station.

Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately after reading the horror stories) I think a pin might have come out of the bracelet allowing the strap to separate and the watch to fall off. I have not heard anything from the police - so doesn't sound like it has been handed in but I am relying on police finding it, checking the immobilise website and getting in contact.

In the meantime my insurance are being very good but has any one got any suggestions of reputable places to buy a 2nd hand version of this watch - is watchfinder.co.uk recommended ?

Off topic but I once had a big hug from a Spaniard (probably on holiday from las ramblas) when I was a little worse for wear. He took my phone, which happened to be an old Nokia work phone, something twigged in my mind, turned round and held out my hand to which he handed it back.

Probably thought it wasn’t worth the hassle for a £10 phone, especially as I’m powerfully built, minus the beard.

Does insurance pay ou for lost items? How can you prove to them you have lost it?

FWIW my Omega Seamaster fell of my wrist in a shopping centre when a pin came loose. Luckliy I heard the thunk and sensed a suddenly lighter wrist.

Gumtree, eBay, cash converter type shops etc are worth a look.

Indeed. A good friend came home minus an £8k U-Boat thing after a similar setup in Soho. Keep your eyes open...

The police won't find it so you'll be relying on (i) some honest person handing it in and (ii) if someone does, the station where is it handed it recording it properly so it can be found by the station you reported it to getting the search correct.

Keep a sharpe look out on eBay in case it comes up for sale. You do have a record of the case number don't you?

Good luck.
