The battery lasts all day ..
The charging is though a magnetic dongle thing ..
No proding or probing ...
You really have too try it ..
Also it's so light .you look to see its still there ..
And I think my cheapest large size looks cool ...
And it's quite cool having a watch that nobody else has. hehe

Nope. I had a Jawbone for a couple of months, for the first few weeks it was interesting, showed me how many steps I walked and how well I slept.

Then during month two I stopped downloading it as frequently because if I did a lot or walking my feet would ache, and if I slept badly I would feel tired.

Month three it went in a drawer and it has been there since the beginning of March.

I have one, had one since late april...have barely worn any of my other watches since. It is light, love the silicone straps ( I work out a lot so always sweaty etc ). Does a good job of recording my Heart rate fairly accurately during excerise, so a lot of times I don't need to bother with a HR chest strap. I still like the fitness monitoring 3 months in. I like the watch face. I have a stand for it on my bedise cabinet so it goes on charge all night & I use it as my alarm to wake me up , charge is not a problem. Useful when out & about walking to control music/audiobook without getting phone out of pocket etc, useful to see texts on it at such times too. listened to a couple of calls on it, works ok now & again. Don't really use many of the other features..in fact if it wasn't for the fitness side of it probably wouldn't have one, but being very active I find that most useful. think all the other apps etc for it are pretty useless, don't really look at stuff on the screen. Mine is the sport version, wears well, light , comfortable & accurate.
Got some very nice other watches but other than the odd night out just haven't bothered wearing them, change the face & the colours on the apple watch now & again and that helps stem the boredom that always sets in when you have had a watch a while..in fact I have had no urge to buy any other watches since I have been wearing it, and as someone that has been a serial watch buyer ,that has been a very good thing, as it may have cost me all of £339, but it probs has saved me thousands in keeping me away from buying more mechanical watches.
Understand its not for everyone, but its worked out well for me

Look at the TV advertising - what's the focus ? It's the health/exercise App they are using to lead the campaign at least in the UK

The OP bought and likes it and he's turned on by that aspect of its functionality - no surprise there - it will sell a lot of units by normal standards for a product but perhaps not the volume that Apple generally sell because at this point I don't see it having a mainstream appeal but heck I have IPhone IPad and my wife has an IMac so I respect Apples ingenuity and maybe I will be proved wrong - I won't be buying one anytime soon

Is the marketing any different in other countries ?

Had a young kid (about 11 or 12 at a guess) come into the shop yesterday asking about his watch. It's a 1960s mechanical and not running properly. he didn't have it with him but showed me photos on his iPhone. Apparently his birthday's coming up and he'd like to spend his anticipated birthday money on having it serviced.

So, no, I don't think Apple's techno-toy will spell the end of real watches because there'll always be a next generation who're fascinated by tiny moving parts (no battery required) on their arm smile

How cool is that.

Of course the apple watch wont 'end' the mechanical watch..two totally different things. I will continue to enjoy my mechanical watches, say on a night out /occasional treat to wear, and I love them regardless of how much I wear them. What the apple watch has done for me has given me a daily wearer that has added functionality over a mechanical piece, there is plenty of space for both
Do get a bit fed up of this anti apple thing all the time, its a good product if its for you ,like it is for me, if not don't buy it, but all this 'people are sheep, apple followers blah blah' change the record. Having had a Microsoft band & a Basis peak for a bit, the apple is way ahead on the wearable fitness tracker thing, so well done to them, apple watch is a helluva lot nicer to wear & use than either of those were

I had an apple watch sport for a week - scratched it by simply clonking it on the sink at home when washing hands, so decided to take it back and swap it for a stainless one, which has the stronger sapphire glass and is stainless (which will wear its "patina" better over time IMHO).

The AW isn't going to replace traditional mechanical watches any time soon. Has it stopped me from dropping nearly 10k on a Speed Master Pro and a Sub in the medium to long term? Most likely. There's no doubt that it is a beautifully made piece of kit, and the fact that it DOESN'T look too nerdy means I want to wear it as a daily.

Other smart watches such as the Pebble and Moto 360 look a tad bulkier and nerdier.

Charging? Zero issue. Most of you take your watch off at night and leave it by your bed. The charging mechanism is elegant and quick (only an hour or so). I wore my watch all day yesterday from about 8am, put it on power reserve over night, took it out of power reserve this morning and I'm continuing to wear it this lunchtime - it's at 42%.

It's not for everyone, but the fitness app is really compelling. I'm wearing something which looks good with a suit, has the ability to easily swap bands, and is taking my vitals all the time, which is useful as I'm about to start HIIT excercises.

Montblanc already do something similar - but it's just the strap and fancy electronics, you keep your existing watch on the top of your wrist and the fancy stuff goes where the clasp is, I think.

You should have smashed his IPhone, given him an old Brownie Box Camera, and demanded he come in with a PROPER photograph.

Not sure if that's the most pointless thing I've ever seen.
Why would you want two watches on at the same time when one will suffice?

Well, didn't you know, the writing's on the wall for Rolex and these other dinosaurs. I'd offer him a tenner for the lot and he'll probably tear your hand off in eagerness. biggrin

Don't really think that attaching electronics to a mechanical watch is a goer at all.

One of the overlooked aspects of the apple watch , and I am sure many will follow, is the ability to change the watch faces as you like, helps stem the boredom a little. Whatever mechanical watch I have owned and loved when first purchased, once you have become accustomed to the view then starts to make your eye wander to find a new view ie excuse for buying a new watch.
Solution ...apple watch for daily, mechanical for those special moments...its a bit like having the special car in the garage for the blasts, use it everyday then you get used to it, take it out now & again , the magic stays.
I don't know many people into mechanical watches that don't swap/add pieces regularly..as I said I haven't bought a watch for ages, so apple thank you for saving me ££££

I agree although I've become attached to my apple watch so I don't even wear my traditional watches very much at all.

yeah, there is that - maybe I should offer him a big discount so I'm on his "nice guy" list when it happens. Then again, do that nowadays and there's a danger of being accused of grooming. Hmm, C Wing or brutal axe murder - they never covered that in watchmaking classes biggrin

Box Brownie??? Don't they take those newfangled pre-made film rolls rather than coating your own plates?

Seriously though, part of what struck me was the kid was obviously happy with technology and had the money in his family for Apple stuff, but likes a watch that ticks.

It not another watch - just does some of the smartwatch stuff like show you texts, incoming calls, emails etc, without having to take your phone out - along with all the fitness sh*t!
http://www.montblanc.com/en-gb/discover/specials/m...

I'd happily buy one if they were reasonably priced and available as an add-on for my Profile XL.

Oddly, this thread has had me looking at apple watches again and trying to convince myself I want one. hehe
