I didn't say what price winkbiggrin

Sure, there are a lot more Rolex out there than Panerai, though for like-for-like manufacturing numbers I think that there'd still be more Rolex wearing WIS than Panerai.

Yeah I actually agree lol, was just being contrary smile

There was a beautiful Officene Panerai on Chrono24 a few months back, it was £7500, I thought meh I will get grief but it's beautiful (actually I thought I will lie about the price) got credit card out... Then realised it was £75,000 frown

I quite a Panerai convert tbh

I bought a PAM 305 in 2010 and now have another

Dropped the 305 into the AD for a service on Oct with a 'provisional' estimate of £480. A month or so later I was told it had to go back to the factory due to the nature of the movement but the £480 should still stand

Phone call today. £1000 please. New face, new hands and new bezel required. That's on a perfectly working example that I thought would simply need a service

Everyone's an enthusiast these days. Is there anyone out there who hasn't googled the history of their £5k wristwatch?

Panerai have a 'following' and as peole have said can be marmite. Having got one I'm biased as they are an unusual watch to have in a collection.

They are 'big' so take account a business shirt cuff may not cover it hence I only wear mine for casual.

Monopulsante is a 'busy' looking watch and the question to ask is, can you live without a date window? PAM233 8 day GMT has a strong following ('moon dot' preferable to AM/PM) and is 2/3 the price of what you're looking at if you fancy an alternative and cleaner face.

Ouch, what can happen to it that requires a new face and hands?

£1000!!! What was wrong with it?

Not had a problem with my 364 or had to service it yet but I dread the day I have to send it off to Panerai for any work to be done on it. They have a frankly awful reputation as Dick Turpins. Suggest you have a look on the Paneristi forum as they usually have good advice for servicing and repair issues through ADs.

Nothing wrong with the watch at all really.

Ok I dinged the bezel the day after I got it (ouch) but new face and hands?

AD has been great, they are asking what exactly is going on phone

This isn't about you or what you want.

Get what she wants.

Even if you hate it.

She loves it.

And will love you wearing it.

That is all that matters.

Soooo.

New bezel and face are optional....hands and bezel gear aren't. So the potential service bill is now £635

I dropped the watch off 28th October and Panerais latest estimate is I will get it back June 1st (ish)

Not greatly impressed at the moment mad

That would be enough to put me off buying one.

Could you claim on the house insurance? That is a pretty ridiculous amount of time (and money), I heard JLC were similar and would not buy one on that basis. I only found out today that Panerai are a part of the Richemont group (with IWC, Montblanc etc) but they must act pretty independently.

I doubt the house insurance would cover a device tbh and the cost of the bezel/ gear would likely be the excess

32 weeks though?!? That's taking the fking piss

Mine covers watches but you had to name them in the policy if they're worth over a certain amount.

Might be worth checking........Just be careful you don't "lose it".

Give Brendan (webwatchmaker.com) a shout, and see what his timeframe and cost would be.
Ex-JLC, so still has the contacts to get genuine parts for most Richemont brands.

I was looking at watches the other day and saw some nice looking panerai(s).

Although I (possibly rashly) half dismissed them years ago as fashion watches due to the size and Stallone connection and massive crown guard, I still quite like them. The model range seems much more diverse now and it’s pretty hard for non panerai fans to know what’s what. hehe

There seem to be smaller case watches with the crown guard, larger ones without the crown guard, GMT’s with a gmt hand and others with a gmt sub dial.

Are they just constantly changing the style of the watches with many past models being discontinued? There doesn’t seem to be much continuity to my untrained eye, except for the original base models.

Are there servicing and reliability issues?

We don’t get many on the wrist shot threads? Perhaps some owners could post some up and share their experience?

Here's my PAM111.

Bought used 6 years ago, never had any issues at all with it. My only comment would be that being polished it scratches easily but a cape cod soon sorts it.
