Submariner 'hulk' homage?
Discussion
For some time, I've been pondering my first 'big' watch purchase, well, big for me (currently typing with a gold Digital Casio from Argos!) and so far, with a couple of exceptions, my favourite watch is the Rolex Sub.
My Dad has a black one, wore it for a while and quite enjoyed the 'move over, poor person' feel of it, once I'd got used to the weight. My favourite of the subs is the hulk, I think the 'unusualness' appeals somewhat - the price, however, doesn't!
So, unsurprisingly, I'm after an homage to one, if I can find one. The closest I've found, so far, is the Steinhart Ocean 1 Green, but that's the 'kermit' version with just the green bezel, don't like as much.
And so it is that I come to you, the powers of PH, to ask if there is such a thing as a hulk homage. My only criteria are that it needs to be (substantially) cheaper than an original, NOT just a fake Rolex, and probably no bigger than about 40mm, on account of my flimsy girl's wrists - possibly up to 42 at a push.
And yes, I have googled it!

Green is my favourite colour so I bought a Hulk and I wear it every day. Expensive for what it is but it still looks like new after months of wear.
Google 'green dial diver' - lots of companies make them. Seiko and Squale for example. The Seiko Alpinist is nothing like a Hulk but it's a lovely watch.
There are plenty of lookalikes available too:

Invicta do one, which looks fairly similar, but the quality will be light-years away from a Hulk
In your position, I'd do one of three things:-
1) Get a Steinhart to see if you can live with a chunky watch after all your relatively lightweight watches - you can always sell it on later if you don't like it, or decide to go for 2) or 3)
2) seek out a good pre-owned genuine Hulk (£5k+?)
3) save some annual bonuses and go for a new one
SWMBO would probably not agree with 2) or 3), at least until your impending big event is paid for
Whilst #1 is the obvious, sensible and safe choice, I know that (like me) you'd look at a Hulk homage and just know that it isn't the real thing....

Whilst I don't own one, many seem to rate Christopher Ward, and, like the Steinhart, it appears to have the quality and respect that makes it a brand in its own right, despite the clear homage to the Sub. And, they do the size y would suit.

Manbushijie will sell you a Submarniner-a-like with a green face. Available with steel or rubber strap. The prices are much cheaper if you log in.
I can't be arsed to hunt for a pic of a green one. Here's a random pic.
Note that this is water resistant to 10m, not water proof. So it's really only shower proof, you wouldn't want to swim with it. It's a diver that does not dive.
You will probably find these cheaper elsewhere, it isn't worth the extra hassle. Parnis is a seller assembled brand, so you need to buy from a seller with a decent track record.

I've spent 2 days 'umming' and 'ahhing' - just read a tandem review of the Ocean 1 and CW Trident C60, and it seems my mind was made up before I started this thread!
I found a 'real-world' review of the Ocean 1 green, my choice, (can be read here if anyone's interested) and I'm sold by its looks, and the way that owners have said it feels to wear.
It's not the hulk I was after, but none of the (very close) suggestions posted here have given me the 'want' value. So, that's the one I'll be ordering.
It's unlikely to be this side of new year, thanks to annoying commitments such as mortgage and offspring, but soon!
For now at least, I've seen a Seiko 5 in green with NATO strap which appeals to me, and is sub £50, so will tide me over nicely until then. Tell me the man maths works?
Thanks all for your suggestions, although it seems they were terribly in vain, and watch this space!

I'd skip the Seiko (nice though it is) and put the £50 towards the Ocean 1 - it means you'll already be 1/6 of the way there - once you get the Steinhart, you'll almost never wear the Seiko, so it would be a pointless purchase
Why don't you sell some stuff (like the 17" wheels off the Bora) to fund the Steinhart?

That's the plan. Although prices of things that I want to sell have currently dropped, those wheels are, currently, not worth much more than £100 ish, that's a 75% loss inside 2 years. Would like to use my bonus in spring to fund one, but it seems aviation is a lucrative business so my annual surplus may be slightly theoretical.
I'll have to see what Santa brings me...

I got the Kermit Steinhart 4 weeks ago, its lost 30 secs in that 4 weeks. very comfortable. It will be retired this weekend into the normal circulation of my 14 other watches, so worn 4 times a year for a week (ish). Unless I get rid of some of my others.I found a 'real-world' review of the Ocean 1 green, my choice, (can be read here if anyone's interested) and I'm sold by its looks, and the way that owners have said it feels to wear.

interesting - not seen that one before. At that price I would assume a chinese movement or jap movement (hopefully Jap otherwise it would be pricey) Mineral glass as well, not a fanThere is a bit more detail on the Amazon listing, but it's £28 more expensive there. I was quite impressed with the 300m depth rating on a watch that cheap.
Automatic movement from Citizen-Miyota, Calibre 8215, with a power reserve of 42 hours, Diver watch with a screw-in crown and 30atm (300m) water resistance, Rotating bezel for setting the dive time, Massive stainless-steel case, Hardened, scratch-resistant mineral crystal
