I've had a 41mm yellow gold / champagne dial Day Date 2 since they came out and in about
3 yrs or so I've only seen two other Day Dates in the wild......and about a hundred Daytonas.


The AP's are a top quality watch but I found the Royal Oak Offshore especially very uncomfortable- on a strap
they felt 'top heavy' and kept twisting round on the wrist- residuals on AP are also terrible.
The Day Date meanwhile is the most comfortable watch I've ever had-the president bracelet is a work of art
in itself and within 2 mins you can't feel you're wearing it.

I think the poster is relatively young and the DayDate II is a bit more of an older guys watch. I bought a rose gold DDII with chocolate face for my father recently, he did pay me back for it, and I was truly impressed by what a lovely watch it is - however, when I put it on my wrist it didn't really suit me as a younger guy. Same to be said for the SkyDweller.

I have no problem at all with the AP ROO, wearing mine now on the rubber strap, great fit and very comfortable. No doubt it's chunky, but that's part of the styling.

Residuals are not great, but that's the same for Rolex if you don't buy well! My GMT is approx £23k new - or £14k used. Buying a 5+ yr old AP and you can be sure of very little depreciation, similar to Rolex.

I am indeed relatively young, under 40 anyway!

I'm planning on trying a couple variations of the AP's this week to see how they feel. I really like your Rolex Sealtt, saw a guy wearing a similar one on holiday this year and thought it looked the business, probably a bit much for me though.

I also like the day date though I feel I've only a few years to wear the 'younger' watches and plenty of time for the classics.

That said I may well wait a while longer and just jump straight up to the PP 5711...

Although the Day Date is often seen as an old mans watch I think that's what makes it look good on young folk.
I mean- Kate Moss looks cool as hell driving her vintage Rolls Royce....Michael Winner didn't.

I get what you're saying and it is a nice watch, but at 36mm (second hand) a bit small for my tastes at the moment. I see they do a 40 now but somewhat out of my price range.

It depends completely what price you pay in the store.

I bought a Diver for £9k (brand new) - Blowers just offered me £8.5k cash for it (not PX)...and it's 3 years old.

If you manage to negotiate a good discount and buy a popular model you will be fine.

true but if everyone is buying APs at 30% off from the dealer it says something about the real pricing not being RRP....

try getting a dealer to give you 39% off a steel Daytona. or any rolex sports watch

No quite 39% but managed 20% off a EXP-39 from an AD

I like both my Daytona and the ROO, but the Daytona is a daily office watch and I want it to slip under my cuff, not an option on the AP really as it will catch or not go under a tighter cuff at all. Not a fan of those who have their cuff resting on their huge watch so everyone can see it

If you'd bought an APRO, that would fit under the cuff
