So my tag CARRERA AUTO TWINTIME STL has been neglected and stopped working a while ago. Would now like to get it working again.

Tag direct have quoted £315 as it needs a full service.

Seems a lot is this about right? is it worth the hassle of going to a local shop or are any net places likely to be much cheaper - quick google found places like http://www.thewatchlab.co.uk.

if its £50 difference would probably prefer tag to do it but if it would be a lot cheaper then would consider elsewhere - is this about the right price or way too much?

any advice appreciated thanks

Variomatic on here is your man, he'll probably be along soon. Lots of happy customers about these parts

For fixing what is basically a 2892 it's a lot, but generally speaking that seems to be the going rate for any Swiss service centre. I don't know if they do the whole Rolex-style "give you your watch back new" standard of service (in which case it might be worth it), but if you just want the thing to run well and keep time then it'll be bread and butter work to any decent watchmaker.

If I do, will you appear with some tools? I have bought a very old 12hr stopwatch and it only runs for 6hrs (and can be wound endlessly)!

No, but let me know what it is (pref with photos of the movement) and I'll send a new mainspring + fitting instructions. What could possibly go wrong? biggrin

Possibly a Brevet, but I am far from certain. I have seen the movement before, with the same patent number, lacking the separate lower right section which carries the serial number. I presume that this incorporates the 12hr complication?

I definitely couldn't fit a mainspring, but thank you for the offer.

OP, if you're still contemplating where to send your watch - Variomatic only received my watch at Wednesday lunchtime and it's just arrived back home.

Price as quoted, with no mysterious extra things that needed doing, in fact I queried whether it needed anything additional and was told it'd be good for a while yet.

Great service!
