Got £3500 for a watch but what one?0
Discussion
I'd recommend not spending £3,500 on a watch if you don't know what you want! Why would you?
You can get some fabulous watches for far less than that. They'll still give you a lot of pleasure and be terrific to own. Stowa, for example, can be found for a few hundred quid. Yet Stowa is a good brand with a reputation for high quality watches. In contrast, TAG Heuer cost more and have a reputation for lower quality, with a slightly tarnished brand value. Don't confuse price with quality!
I'd encourage you to spend a lot less than £3,500. Then you can put the rest in an ISA for a rainy day, going travelling, towards a house deposit or a car, etc. Sorry if this is heresy on a watch forum!

Bell & Ross BR01 of any description, one the most distinctive watches out there. Sure they dont have an in house movement, but the finish etc is up there with the other mid level brands.
Speedmaster pro is another obvious choice been unchanged since the 60s (I know, but to any normal person they are unchanged) total classic. The new MK11s are really nice.

Omega Planet Ocean?
To be honest, as someone else said, I wouldn't spend £3.5K on a watch you're not fully committed to. As such, maybe spend a day in London (Harrods, Burlington Arcade, Old Bond St.) and see what's available. Know that there is discount on RRP - Anywhere from 0% for Rolex up to 20-25% for a TAG or Omega. Have a look on some web based sites too e.g. www.watchfinder.co.uk
Once you've found a couple of watches you like the look of, try them on and narrow the search down. Once you've found that one piece that really does it for you, then spend your £3.5K
The other question is, do you want a mainstream watch (Rolex, Breitling, Omega), or something a little more interesting (Bell & Ross, Zenith, Bremont)?

20's are for fun!
I agree, but you can have a lot of fun without spending £3,500 on a watch in your 20's.I wish I still had the watches I bought when I was 20/21 - a used Datejust Jubilee for £575 and a new Sub non date for £790 IIRC from Benzie in Cowes - buy things when you are young that appreciate - also invest 10% of your wages and when you are 40 you can buy even better shiny things ....

I agree, but you can have a lot of fun without spending £3,500 on a watch in your 20's.I had a quartz Seiko and the gold automatic my parents bought for my 21st in my 20s... I also had a house (well a mortgage)!
Car, holidays, girl (OK, that hasn't worked out great...), house, watch to make sure I wasn't late to airport/work/dates ONLY!!!!!
The house proved better value than any watch too!

I suspect that's a rather minority view in the big wide world of real people... Stowa, for most, will be a 'neverheardofit' brand, whereas TAG Heuer are famous and widely recognised...
Don't confuse watch snobbery with a general world view...
I agree with everything else you said though
