Rolex without papers
Discussion
Assuming I know the watches provenance, how much would a 2012 Rolex gold with black face and bezel gmt master 2 be worth. It without papers but has the original purchase receipt
The watch is from a friend and The price he has offered is substantially cheaper than I can find for ones with papers. Watch will be kept for a few years, not to resell. Just want to know if I'm buying at a fair price

Well I bought a stainless GMT for about £400 less than equivalent watches with B&P - that's about 20% off. But then it had just come back from Rolex who'd certified it not stolen, serviced it etc. Also arguably a more sought-after watch than a gold one.The watch is from a friend and The price he has offered is substantially cheaper than I can find for ones with papers. It's a difficult one as it's a private sale. I would say about 2/3rds of the sticker price average of a few dealers. Maybe a touch less.
Edited to add - if I knew and trusted the seller and intend to keep the watch the lack of papers wouldn't bother me in the slightest.

I'd agree with the previous post. But as I've said in another thread as it's a high value deal, I'd be tempted to include a Rolex service as part of the deal. The Rolex service warranty would give any potential 3rd party buyer a measure of comfort as he / she is unlikely to know the OP's friend

That's pretty much what he's suggesting. So we are in the right ball parkEdited to add - if I knew and trusted the seller and intend to keep the watch the lack of papers wouldn't bother me in the slightest.

If that's a 2008, wouldn't it have the Rolex engraving on the chapter ring? I know it was introduced 2007-2008, but I believe the precious metals got it before? And wouldn't 2008 be ceramic?
Here's a 2008 one I've had my eye on, hence the question

It's a 16718 18ct GMT-Master II the predecessor to the current 116718LN with the ceramic bezel insert. 116718LN was introduced at the Basel Worl Fair in Spring 2005. The 16718 is likely to have ceased production in 2004.
OP, if you know the serial number then you can reference this against many serial number charts published online.
Hope this helps.

Well firstly, that's a very nice pick up.
Is it possible it was bought as NOS in 2008, but with no papers I guess that will be difficult to establish, but it might explain the dates given.
Absolutely, it is not uncommon for high value inventory to stay in stock for years. A quick check of the serial number against established charts will give a better idea of age. As long as the watch is sound and the price is fair, I wouldn't get too worried about the age...
