and will the fact that the Black version having only been released at the end of last year, mean the original version without the in house movement is rarer and therefore holds its value better? Or is that wishful thinking?
It's possible that will be the case, as Tudor informed their AD's at the time that it would be a limited production - not in terms of a specified number, but by the fact that it would be time limited.....but it depends on how the new models compared to old are received.
I certainly don't think they will loose money over time on this basis alone, 6-9 month production run is not long and I suspect they weren't turning out hundreds of thousands of them....

So, on the standard Black Bay Black changes seem to be:-

new riveted bracelet, obviously the new movement and the rose appears to have been replaced by the shield.

As someone new to watches, is there any merit in buying one of the current versions, instead of holding out for this new one?

Not sure if I like the riveted bracelet and will the fact that the Black version having only been released at the end of last year, mean the original version without the in house movement is rarer and therefore holds its value better? Or is that wishful thinking?
The only real merit that I can think of is that servicing costs will be lower for the ETA movement than the in-house movement. Personally that wouldn't be a factor if I was buying.

I'm not convinced that the ETA Black Bay will hold it's value as much as some people think it will if you look at 2nd hand ETA Pelagos prices compared to the MT Pelagos, although it's probably too early to tell and the brand probably isn't strong enough for the demand to push it's value.

Due to the 6-9 month only production period, I think only the black bezel version of the Black Bay will hold any value of the ETA versions.

The Black Bay Bronze, on an aged leather strap, looks bloody lovely:

I love the bronze but it wouldn't be something I could wear every day. Like the idea of the in house movement on the new Black Bay Black, although I'm not as keen on the new bracelet design (fussy endpins) as much and seems a shame to drop the rose logo. Still happy I bought mine when I did, especially for the decent deal I got.
