Any thoughts? Much value to it?

The code 7A28 or similar on the back may be its movement type. A common auto movement these days is a 7s26.

It's Japanese made which adds value. I do know that some military Seikos are very sought after. Not quite like military Rolex, but there you are.

You appear to have a mid 80s to early 90s gen 1 seiko chrono that was RAF issue.

Lovely watch in my opinion and quite desirable. I can't help with the value.

Thanks very much guys! I wasn't sure which of the serial numbers on the back was the model no. Do any of the stamped nos on the back allow me to locate when and to who it was originally issued?

The number 6645-99-7583056 is a NATO stock number (NSN) which only identifies the item on an order form. Unfortunately there'd be no way to ID who it was issued to or when.

It's a Seiko 7A28-7120 or otherwise known as a seiko 1st generation RAF pilots watch. I think they were also issued to Fleet Air arm. You could also buy an identical civie version (without all the MOD stuff on the back)

The P on the front means the glowing bits were painted with mildly radioactive Promethium. Don't worry though, the gamma rays shouldn't leave the case.

On military watch dials, (T) is for Tritium, (L) is for Luminova, (M) is for Maraglo and (P) is for Promethium

I expect it's worth around £650 max.

To be worn with NATO strap for max RAFness

Here's a price guide thread to help valuation.

Is the 815484 a service number? (Not in forces, but sure my ex WSO housemate had his number stamped on the case - although that might have been post his MB tie present)

The 815484 number is just the seiko case serial number. The first number 8 is the year so you have to know the decade e.g. it's 1988 or1998 or 1978. we know it's 1988 though. the second number is the month so 1 is January.

The military serial number 4882 /88 indicates it was issued in 1988. So that backs up the Seiko serial number indicating this watch was made in January 1988 and then issued to the military in 1988.

If it's RAF issue best not take it out in the rain.
