There are plenty of people modding and rebadging their cars to look like the real thing.

Owns a BMW 318i and tarts up to look like an M3.
The PH populous have a consensus of those types of folks.

If you are into fakes.....just give it a try on General Gassing... and see what responses you get.

The whole 'fake watches' thing is actually quite interesting really.

I've spent my whole life thinking that fake watches were something you bought off the looky-looky man on the beach for £50 and then promptly threw in the bin a few days/weeks/months later when it stopped working or completely fell apart.

Whilst the above is still very true of 99% of fakes, I had no idea that there was a second type of fake which people spend days perfectly crafting, often using high quality Swiss movements and many genuine parts. I had no idea these things existed!

I stumbled upon a 'replica' forum a few months ago via a link someone put on Facebook and it was really fascinating! Hundreds of people competing to see who could build the finest replicas, some totally indistinguishable from the real thing and using £500-1000 worth of real hands, faces, bezels, crowns, bracelets etc.

Quite amazing.

For those people on the Replica forum, it seems to be much more of a hobby and something they enjoy doing rather than them simply wanting a fake watch to fool people.

Personally I think you would have to be utterly mental to spend £500-1000 building or buying what is essentially still a fake watch, but I can understand it as a hobby.
I think that if you have the skills to hand craft something that a factory just churns out on the cheap then you have a right to be proud.

And as there is so much more craftsmanship involved then you should be able to sell them for much more than the original as buyers are paying for the craftsmanship and not the brand anyway. wink

Possibly not the adverse reaction some would hope for though....

What about fake lady boobies?

They're like watches. You pay £4K and show it off on your arm.

Being PH, that's actually a populace.

I

I dont think that the man who owned these watches thought much about it, simply wanted a good looking watch that kept good time. His house had nothing of value so I am assuming he could not afford a real Rolex, or justify the cost. He just liked the look of the watch more than a Timex that would have been the same price.

Are you going to answer the question or continue to be a tit?
I did. And no I'm not being a tit but you're being somewhat naive in asking the question

I think that in the world of people who buy baubles to feel superior to strangers then it's perfectly feasible that this may be why they buy a pair of boobs for someone. biggrin

And I doubt those who are so deeply offended by fake badges on cars or fake watches are so offended by a pair of fake boobies. wink

You're an idiot on so many levels.
But then again, you're the one with the fakes
wink
I guess as my watch cost 1% of what you paid but looks identical who is the idiot now then? I can understand your being jealous and rather pissed off about it though....

You wasted cash on a fake... you might not like my answer.
I just don't get why anyone would want to buy a fake anything... it just sounds desperate.

I bet you didn't buy a cheap Chinese telly and stuck a SONY badge on the front. You could have saved £5000 - Think about it!!

Or maybe you buy M&S Sweaters and spend the evenings sowing Lacoste labels on them.

How in Gods name is spending £3500 less on something identical in looks and function either wasting money or desperate?
Seriously, how????

If you, with a 'genuine' were to say face to face to a 'fake' wearer it was HE who had wasted his money you would be just be laughed at !

Exactly

If you like the design of a watch but can't afford it why the hell would you not get a homage instead of a fake, unless you want to pass it off as the real thing?

Fella, I am sure you are a nice bloke in real life... but it comes over all "saddo" here is why....
You cannot afford the real thing.
You want the image but not the price tag.
And... it has to be as identical as possible... e.g...."fake"

And then... " But I only spent £39.99... huzzah..."

Do you buy suits from M&S and sew premium labels to the inside", Or Clarke shoes and relabel as Barker? etc etc

What about the oven in your kitchen... Is it a Lamona you stuck a Miele badge on....?

If not... why not?

And do you drive a "Landwind"?

And there it is in a nutshell. It's all about the image - the "I'm considerably richer than yow" doesn't work if people can achieve the same when spending substantially less.

This gets down to being about people being pissed off having spent thousands more on the same but finding every other reason possible.
There are two reasons only to buy original and that's investment and to know its original. Both of those are personal to the wearer, and for every one owner that decides they are important there are 100's who don't so are quite happy with 'fakes'.
It doesn't make the 'fake' wearers sub human and if anything they can be argued as being more astute and less easily swayed by the hype to become watch fashion victims.
I have a '58 black dial oyster at the moment but I'm quite happy to wear a submariner I bought for £15.
