With regards to the "feel" of £25k watches I'm reminded a little of the "audiophile" thread, where people were absolutely sure that gold plated cables sounded better than normal ones.

Sound is subjective. If they could hear an improvement then they were better to them. Or do you know otherwise?

Gold plated terminals don't corrode so are ideal for in car use.
Gold strand cabling is better than copper, it has a lower resistance therefore more efficient at transferring sound.
Then again in the digital age with optical cabling there is no good or bad as it's either on or off

I once bought a car where the owner had had £20-£30k of sound system installed. I can't say it enhanced my Radio 4 listening experience. Useful for blending in if you had to cross the Thames I guess. smile

But sound does seem to be a subject that some blokes can be fanatical over.

He is a jumped up ponce of no substance who spews and regurgitates cliches from butt-plugged marketing gibbons.

'good tailor is in my list of the most important people a man should know. A good tailor, a good accountant and a good barman.'

If we are discussing fake v real then here we have an example of a fake attempting to be something it isn't being used to justify an anti-fake stance. wink

WOW, not much of a snob are we?
Just because the chap seems to have a regular job in the midlands, he's not 'allowed' to have or comment on the finer things in life?

Sound travels in waves, not down cables... Even if gold cables ARE better, it's not at transferring sound, but the electrical impulses that the sound has been converted to.

Sorry to be pedantic smile

You don't get the irony of what you posted earlier? rofl

It's like those prats who buy an Aston and think they're James Bond or the ones who buy a Porsche and suddenly think that makes them more important than others. It is quite clear that the same type of twerp buy bracelets and think that makes them more important than others and are riled at the audacity of people who wear fakes. Those are the snobs you complete prat.

That's fair enough, I'm no sound engineer (obviously) I just knew the lower the resistance the less power needed to 'deliver' and gold offers a much lower resistance than copper. In a speaker cable more strands means lower resistance, so with gold strands the cables can be thinner for the same performance (if that makes sense?) Also very much depends on what you are willing to pay for cabling!!

He lost my interest when he trotted out the cliche about fakes "funding the illegal drugs industry" ect.

Regardless of the rights or wrongs of fakes, anyone who claims that the drugs industry needs "funding" from anything but drugs is either mindblowingly stupid or lying to me. In either case their opinion deserves less respect than a Chinese quartz Bolex.

I agree with the 'Bond' nonsense, but the 'brand' sells and sells well, and that some get delusions of grandeur just because they have some sort of luxury trinket.
I have no such delusions, but fakes are fakes, they exist for saddos that want in on the brand, but aren't willing or can't afford it. Otherwise why pretend to buy into it.
As to owning the genuine item making you a better person?
By buying the real thing you're not sporting counterfeit goods, owning something that pretends to be something it's not or passively approving of crime (making and selling of fake items), so yes, may be you are, at least in that area. You could be a total SH!T in all other aspects of life.

Depends on how your criminal empire is organised. Fake watches could be just one income stream, of many.
The drugs 'thing' is daft though I agree, drugs fund drugs or weapons depending on situation.

I suppose in a convoluted way.......
looky looky man, sells fake watches, uses some of his profits for more fake watches and the rest for dope to forget about his cr@ppy existence , drug dealer profits, buy more drugs for more profits
Then again that could be any regular Joe, with a SH!TTY job wanting 'away' from the world for a while smile

I couldn't decide if 'The learned Gentleman' was a pisstake or if he was for real....
If its a pisstake he's very good. If not he's a pillock.
