What you buy doesn't make you a knob. How you behave to others is what determines if you're a knob or not.
I agree
Buying a fake doesn't make you a knob, it's just poor judgement and wastes your money. Passing a fake off as genuine, that makes you a knob because of your disingenuous behaviour

Same. wink

But it doesn't bother me when I see or notice someone wearing a fake. It isn't something I really care about.

I dint think "they" see it as a problem. More as a "nice little earner". Tourist goes home with fake Rolex to "impress" the gullible/materialistic, seller earns money to feed his family. Win-win.

The seller would be in the first / second world where the tourists are on the beaches. I was thinking about the third world near or actual slave workers churning the fake CR@P out by the bucket load.

So it's better to buy a fake and support the most needy people then. wink

Of course not.
Keep buying the fake rubbish, the slave factories stay open, the most needy are stuck there. And like they see any of the money, it's all for the overlords
Don't buy the fake rubbish, factories close, the needy are out of work, if it gets bad enough aid will be sent, they get fed and fed up have an uprising, until they realise that it was the pesky West who started all this by not buying fake watches anymore, declare war, the West send troops in, millions die, the only winners are the arms dealers, so they can upkeep the luxury watch market as they can afford the genuine items, everyone else (who's left) can't get a fake watch, as all the factories were destroyed, and there's no demand. And I'm ok with that.

You're definitely making a strong case for the importance of fakes and why people should buy them. No one wants the needless suffering of a civil war on their hands or to force hard working people into aid.

Imagine how much more help they'd get if everyone stopped buying bracelets via Switzerland and bought them direct from the needy. A kind of 'Fair Trade' bracelet?

So, to avoid war, and enriching arms dealers, and preventing millions more immigrants/refugees heading this way, and keeping people in the 3rd world in gainful employment where they learn skills similar to the finest swiss horologist, we should keep buying fake roleses..... biggrinbiggrin

I found a website that makes replica Heuer Mareograph (tide chronograph). Couldn't find a phone number, sent them an e-mail asking for information regarding the movement, etc. and didn't get an answer.

Is this common in the world of fakes?

Considering that most of us don't dabble with them I'd be surprised if there are many people who could give you an informed response.
