Farage said after Newark

'It is difficult to believe, given the number of paid, professional people from the Conservative Party here... their returns are going to come in below the figure.'

To which he got lots of
Nigel Farage can't handle it.
Insinuating that Conservatives are not above board.
How dare you. We are not a bunch of loonies like you. A clean win by the Tory.
It's simply all just sour grapes on your part Farage.
We haven't overspent.
We are all good honest people in the Conservative Party.

Yeah, right!

Was Farage right all along? Well, he normally is.

Irrespective of his Marmite character, Farage is a very seasoned campaigner who stands up to blatant falsehood and has a bloodhound like sixth sense for these activities; very similar to his admirable routing out of fraudulent EU commissioners.

"Alleged breaches of the rules around candidate spending at by-elections or parliamentary general elections are matters for the police to investigate under the Representation of the People Act 1983."

I won't be holding my breath.

Fresh from fighting election fraud in Tower Hamlets, I'm sure Eric 'Roly' Pickles will be on it for the Tory fanbois .

Yes, but more likely is that people will be given more money and power.....

It would be nice, can't see it happening though unless some significant momentum/noise builds up behind it first.

I wonder what the spending was like in South Thanet for the GE. Much lower limits per candidate at the GE than at by-elections (£30k vs £100k IIRC).

Nothing will happen, it will get swept under the carpet. I suspect all parties are at it, and from what I watched on Channel 4 news last night the Electoral Commission is basically useless.

Crick was just on the Daily Politics saying they will be covering this aspect on tonight's C4 news.

They will have to investigate the spending of all parties in this, should make for some interesting revelations.

I suspect all parties that have the money to are, those being Labour and Conservative, I'm not sure the Lib Dems have the resources. I'd be gobsmacked if any smaller party could really exceed £100k in a by election, I got the impression that during the GE Farage was sleeping on a mattress on the floor of a flat that they had rented.

Lib Dems are real grassroots/shoestring types. Labour just don't have the Tories coffers. I doubt Labour would be near the max, but I wouldn't be surprised or bust a gasket if they were.

Yes exactly, where it matters they could be. I doubt the Conservatives are in safe seats either.

It seems they may have gone beyond the limit in South Thanet for the GE too. I missed this a few weeks ago... http://blogs.channel4.com/michael-crick-on-politic...
