I was just wondering what you think of it, what it's like on etc?

I think it's lovely looking, especially on the orange strap like this...

Do Tag do a mechanical watch similar in terms of looks to the connect?

ETA: Closest I've found is this Carerra, but at 4k I'd rather put a touch more and get a Sub.

A colleague of mine was interested in one, so we went to have a look in Selfridges.

  • It's huge. Really huge. I have some big watches, but this is huge.
  • It's very light
  • There is an option to pay the same again in 2 years and get a Carrera - but no details on what it looks like
He didn't buy it.

I havent got one mainly due to Tag being arses about the details but have tried one on extensively.

Surprised you say its huge, granted i have a bell and ross and a corum bubble but it doesnt sem that big to me.

Yes it is very light.

The latest news i have on the mechanical watch upgrade is that you will return the watch to them and they will remove the digital watch and put in an automatic movement. That being said this is the latest of three different versions i have been officially told by Tag, which is one f the reasons im not buying.

Lastly dont buy at the overinflated second hand prices there will still a few new ones around a couple of weeks ago at least.

I've watched few YouTube reviews this morning, the first thing I though was "that's a big watch". I only have 7.5' wrists so maybe it'll be too big for me.

I have just found the same Tag Carerra for £2,800 (new & unworn) on Chrono 24 instead of £4,000. Think I'll wait till they've come down closer to 2k then I might treat myself...

Try one on if you like it, and the terms an conditions that come with it, its a no brainer. Despite what the jewellers tell you if you oush they will do it with their four year interest free option makes it off memory £13 ish pound a month!

Only other problem is I'm an iPhone man, I'm guessing this would render a lot of the connected functions useless to me?

Yes, i have an iphone as well and a lot of the functionality is very limited.
A dealer should have a full list but tou need to be careful with what they or the internet specs tell you.
It will show the music app but you cant change tracks only see what is playing and not through itunes app on phone.
It will show you notifications but wont let you do anything with them.

Imho tag who i have had a very good personal relationship with for a number of years have really pet themselves down with this watch, not by what it can/cant do but by the relictance to tie some of the key points of this watch down. I have stated this before on these pages about this watch but they will not confirm either what form the automatic watch will appear or indeed what price it will be. Everyone quotes £1100 but the actual paperwork suggests this is an estimation of cost.

I do believe that this ambiguity is to enable them to offer either a mechanical watch or a new updated android watch but this does still not ease my concerns.

Im not saying dont buy it, im just saying make sure you are comfortable with what you may end up with.

I have a Breitling Navitimer, Tudor Heritage chrono and Omega Railmaster 42mm - and it dwarfs the lot.

Fair enough, im not disputing you think its big just that i didnt and am surprised that people do.

It's certainly not a dainty watch we can both agree on that, it also needs to be remembered that once it has a mechanical movement in it , it will likely weigh significantly more than it currently does.

Sorry chap, wasn't being arsey - just saying that I have fairly big watches and it felt too big on my wrist.

I think were both being too sensitive to each other! Didnt think you were being arsey was just trying to point out how people have different perceptions without you thinking i was being arsey. beer

Can you buy genuine Tag rubber straps for the watch? Say if I liked more than one colour?

Yes, indeed you'll struggle to find a jeweller to sell you one know on anything other than the black strap with the option to buy a coloured strap as an extra.

I bought one from Ernest Jones in Newastle (with the orange strap as I didn't want black) and took it back, it does work marginally with an iPhone (mainly notifications only) but killed the battery ... 100% to 7% with absolutely no usage (other than the watch connection) in under 4hrs, I was shocked to say the slightest. I have reverted back to my Apple Watch since it doesn't seem to effect my iPhone battery and I get 2days from one charge on the watch

If they sort the drainage issue and apple allow more access to their ecosystem (which I believe is coming) i would try another

Bought the Fossil after looking at the Apple and Tag versions. £300 for what is at this effectively a Sinclair ZX Spectrum of watches. The tech will date quickly so to me it is basically disposable.

Well impressed by the Fossil watch and works with both android and IOS easily. Seems to work as advertised and will upgrade when the tech gets to a stable point. Battery life is not bad on the Fossil as it does 24 hours and has NFC to charge, but still want a bit better.

I have that model Carrera on a steel bracelet, bought it last year from Goldsmiths. The cal 16 day/date are acualy £3600 ( with steel or leather), however at £2800 thats a nice saving. There is the other same model but with the 1887 movement thats £3800., that only has the date window.
I find my self wearing it more over my Rolex sub which i wished i had not bought, i no longer like the look frown
The Carrera cal 16 is a great watch IMO.
