Well... it's a Seiko and it looks pretty grand to me! wink

It's a 1979 Seiko Silver Wave.

Seriously, though, looking at the quality on this watch (cost me less than £30) I can easily believe GS are right up there.

Oh, I don't know. Quartz of that era are worthy of a little airtime but who'd click on an "old Seiko quartz" thread?

Guessing it's a 7123 movement. I have one of those in a Silver Wave, trimmed to better than 3 seconds / month accuracy, and still water resistant to the original 100m (thanks to replaceable crown seals). What's not to like about that in a watch for the price?

A reasonable argument. Im looking for a GS though, as most watch enthusiasts probably are... biggrin

I think there are some smashing older Seiko quartz pieces out there, GS or otherwise. There are a few amongst their Grand Quartz HEQ range that are quite tasty, with a few of them providing inspiration for the modern day GS line.

Nice little watch that OP, especially for £30.

He he - I thought it might disappoint a few, but as Variomatic said, who's going to open a thread saying "£30 early quartz"?

What's remarkable about this watch (especially for the money) is the quality. The dial, hands and case are all finely finished (far better than the average modern Seiko) and the second hand hits it markers well.

If you're in the market for something vintage-ish (is '79 old enough to qualify?) and not prejudiced against quartz, it's an example of the gems you can find out there for a pittance (this one came from eBay).

I posted a photo yesterday because, whilst I've had it a year or so, it had a rare outing yesterday.

In answer to an earlier question, it's a 7546-8340.

For those desperate to see modern Grand Seikos, Google is your friend biggrin

What's the model number for this? I know that the SKX779/781 are very often referred to as being the original Monsters however I'm pretty sure I've read something about this one being the true original. It certainly has the same crown and rocket ship handset.

It's an SLR001 AKA a Quartz Monster. Quite rare by all accounts.

Always good to see Seiko fans out there. All I need now is a SKX013!
