I've been procrastinating on a Breitling purchase for the past couple of months as I really like the idea of a pre-owned Navitimer (pre 1970's), as I think a new watch just wouldn't hold it's value (not that that's the only requirement)... Anyway this site has been really useful for guidance and info http://breitlingsource.com/
Yep, where I did a lot of my research and I actually bought my watch from someone on there too.

No apologies for posting it again wink

I have a chronomat, lovely watch, but I have had it 18 months, it started losing 75secs a week in december and was with breitling until april, it has been back 6 weeks and stopped completely, and is back with them again. They are quoting 3 weeks this time.

Nope, it has EXACTLY the right amount for what it does!

Plenty of other watches that have three hands and simply show the time.

Why on earth (or anywhere else) would anyone want to make a Cosmonaute look like an Explorer? wink

I was born in Oldham and have a Tag for special occasions. I bought an IWC for everyday use recently to make sure the Tag stays in perfect condition.

That's right, everyday IWC and special occasion Tag. Mr Gould's head might have just blown up.

Owned two Breitlings when I started off getting into decent watches (Superocean and Colt GMT). Both had `slight` issues that could be lived with but I felt that flaws weren't acceptable for 4 figure watches so haven't went back to the brand.
Nothing major, bezel wouldn't align 100% was one and the other was literally unreadable in the dark as the lume wasn't as good it it really should have been. I also find that some Breitlings have very busy faces which seem a bit OTT at times.

I had a Tag Monaco that I loved and it never missed a beat. I only sold it as being square, it wasn't the most practical of pieces to wear on a daily basis.

Hey, it's up to you what you wear on special occasions. Daily wearer could be a Breguet and your special watch a Sekonda if you like. Thing is 99% of people don't know what an IWC is so a `Tag` would get the council estate type ladies choking for a conversation with you hehe

I have had a few breitlings, never had a problem with any of them. Theres one fav that i have kept, i bought it new in 05, its the slightly bigger Crosswind Racing 13355, black/gold on a steel strap. Has always been 100% reliable and had two services via Breitling.
I have also owned 3 Tag Heuer Carreras is various forms, the current Tag Heuer day/date Carrera cal16 on a steel strap was bought new 8 months ago.
Both my sons have Breitling Emergencys and 1887 Tag Heuer carrera.
Quality wise both mine are about the same, both gain about 3 seconds a day. Very well built and feel right in hand and on wrist.

True. As an engineer I love the El Primero movement in the Tag. I think the IWC is eta. That along with the fact the IWC is on bracelet and the Tag is on leather has made the decision for me

But the Cosmonaute hands definitely look like replacements and I'd imagine the dial is a factory replacement too or at least re-lumed. It then makes it non-original and worth less to serious Breitling enthusiasts. I came across the same issues when looking for an 806...

To the OP, if you do get a Breitling, buy it on a bracelet as if you want one later; it'll cost you far more to buy one separately. I'd prefer the Blue dial you posted but on a bracelet or brown croco. Saying that, I'm not a fan of the square detailing on the dial and I also think that bezel design has too many "'5's" on it overall. I much prefer the GMT bezels as the numbering is different.
I currently a Chronomat, Chronomat Evo, B-1, SOH and Transocean GMT - quite a mix but never had any issues and my original old Chronomat still keeps amazing time (as do the others).
The Breitling forum on "watchuseek" is very good for reference and assistance etc. http://forums.watchuseek.com/f15/

I think you're definitely wrong on the dial.

You may be right on the hands, but they frequently appear brighter than you'd expect on these and 806s, except on tatty examples, where moisture has affected them (same with the lume - On mine it always looks brighter in photos than to the eye).

The view from people I trusted on this when I bought it was that it was a nice, genuine example.
