Unfortunately my grandfather passed away a few weeks and I have been left his Rolex Air King.

From what I can gather it is 40+ years old and was worn fairly regularly by Grandfather.

I do plan on wearing the watch, thankfully our wrist sizes appear to have been similar so I have no fitting issues.

What I would like to do is get it serviced and cleaned as well as valued for insurance purposes etc ...

Can anyone recommend a good independent or chain (Northern Goldsmiths?) that could carry this out for me?
Cost is not issue, I just want it to go to somebody who is trustworthy and will carry out everything that is required to the highest standard.

Thanks,

GC8

Avoid chains, theyre only sending it to Rolex and inflating the price. Avoid Rolex too, unless you want your grandfathers watch de-personalised.

Hadn't had mine service for 10+ years came back perfect, and most importantly keeps time.......

I'll second Duncan at Genesis. It was an Omega that went to him for a service but it came back looking great and more importantly running perfectly.

I dont see any reason why Rolex wouldnt do a decent job of it. Just give them strict instructions to not replace any of the visible parts. With independent watch repairs, its all a bit of a lottery I have found.

But sometimes it's not which is why I recommended Duncan- but if he wants to be ripped off by Rolex then that's fine

Just looked on his website. To fully service an omega co-axial he charges £275... Omega charge £340 hardly worlds apart. I am pretty sure Omega would replace more parts if required as its all in with the cost.

Another vote for Duncan here, a very one to one service on my Omega.
