Panerai running down over night
Discussion
Hi All
Apologies if mentioned elsewhere but I need to service my Panerai Luminor GMT. It was my father's watch which I serviced soon after it became mine in 2008. It has started running down during the night and I've been told that they should be serviced every 5 years. Last time I took it to Watches of Switzerland who sent it back to Panerai for a service and refurb which clocked in at £450 ...
Could someone please recommend a good Indy for these watches in London please?
Thanks so much
Ben

Darius at the Clock Gallery in Ealing is a master with the eta 775x family of movements, which I remember Panerai have a tendency to use. They also do Rolex and all the other top makes and will charge a heck of a lot less than £450. Details here: http://www.classicchronographs.co.uk/development/a...
How to check for magnetism:
This is one I deliberately magnetised near the balance spring to see how it affected timing. Top right compass is pointing the other way.
Demagantising is done by applying a magnetic field and then rapidly rotating it in a chaotic way so there is no preferred alignment. All ferrous metals have magnetism but the alignment is naturally chaotic until aligned by an external field. Watch repair shops have the small machine that turns this aligned magnetism back to chaotic, or you can buy one on ebay for very little.

Then spoke to Joe (Variomatic) who couldn't have been nicer and so have jiffy bagged the Panerai and my Tag Monaco with a cracked screen to him - fingers crossed Royal Mail Special Delivery don't drop it!
Thanks chaps
