I'm torn i was set on the Daytona however I've been told a date sub is a better investment? Any advice? Is it possible to get a discount on either of these anywhere?
A sub will go down £1k the minute you walk out the door the Daytona is trading at £6k above list.NO real discounts on Rolex Sports watch's
Steel Daytona = waiting list. The new ceramic bezel jobbies = a very, very long waiting list.
A new Sub is not really an investment, but over time they hold their value pretty well. Once they become vintage the rarer ones do gain value.
As stated above, buy the one you prefer, but I'd suggest buying pre-owned in either case.

Steel DaytonaC = 3+ years wait depending on AD and relationship with them
Steel DaytonaC S/H = pay £1,000's over list price
Sub easier to get hold of, but current model is not an investment piece, too many produced

Buy a watch you like. Don't buy one to make money on.
I'm looking for an excuse to justify there extra spend on a Daytona If you buy a Sub, you'll just still want a Daytona... Trust me, buying something instead of what you REALLY want never works in the world of watches..

Depends why you are buying, investment or daily wear
For investment buying a 2nd hand unworn Daytona is probably the better bet, but for daily wear I'd go Submariner every time.
Assume you've had a look at these in the flesh? I find photo's of the Daytona on websites to be completely misleading. I bought a black face Daytona 6 months ago but still wear my Submariner more often as its less blingy and easier to read.

I have yea but not the new Daytona which would be my preference but not sure I can wait 2/3 years For investment buying a 2nd hand unworn Daytona is probably the better bet, but for daily wear I'd go Submariner every time.

A colleague has been quoted 6-7 years for the new Daytona I'd love one but can't wait 7 years. Steel DaytonaC = 3+ years wait depending on AD and relationship with them

There is no waiting list on Daytonas, there are thousands for sale starting at around 5K and none will drop any further than that, but there is a waiting list on the new ceramic ones. They only trade 6k above list to lunatics,
Subs will not drop a grand, cept maybe gold models, but will drop slightly and recover very quickly. Rare subs are bankers as are any rare or transition sports models.
Don`t worry about buy a mint used model either, they are extremely tough, and very rarely get into a messy state.
If you only plan to buy one, buy the one you like the most. A mint used one will only make you feel better about paying the cash for it.

You like it better, there's your justification!
If you buy a Sub, you'll just still want a Daytona... Trust me, buying something instead of what you REALLY want never works in the world of watches..

Wise words - I've been I'm a similar situation and always regretted not buying initially what I was really after.
