I've just bought a Sea Dweller 4000 and would say that it's proportions are pretty much perfect, it feels pretty special.

I've got a SS white faced Daytona , BLNR GMT and a non date Sub.

The sub is on my wrist 95% of the time followed by the Dayona , the GMT virtually not at all .

Never gelled with the batman after wanting one since they came out , had mine over a year and bet it hasn't been worn 20 times.

Funnily enough I quite like the new Yachtmaster grey faced model , but I'm thinking the same will happen .

Interesting this will be my first luxury watch so will be worn everyday. Why is this do you think?

Non date sub was my first Rolex , bought it 16 years ago as my grail watch , never been serviced just the occasional wash in the shower to clean it , just love the simplicity of it.

As others have mentioned buy what YOU want to wear , don't take any interest in any other points like residual values they are totally irrelevant.

Hi All,

I have just stumbled across this thread and funnily enough I am torn between the exact same question, I am also looking to purchase my first Rolex (have been in the market for around two months now) and narrowed it down to a two tone Sub with blue face or the new ceramic SS Daytona.

I thought I made my decision and put a deposit down on a TT Sub, however day before collection I chose to get a refund and pursue a new SS Daytona, personally I prefer the two tone Sub as a watch, but for me buying a Rolex is not just about the way it looks or feels but about how valuable it is as a commodity and how well it will retain value as an asset, and the Two Tone Sub which even if bought at a Tax free price will just not hold its value as well as the steel sports models.

After spending the best part of a weekend calling most of the AD's in the UK I found that waiting lists for the new Daytona were anywhere from 5-20 years! with serious collectors getting priority (understandably). I spend a lot of my time in Switzerland for work and have made some contacts that may be able to help me secure a Daytona, so I am now holding out in the hope of being able to get one before the end of the year.

On balance I would say a SS Daytona is by far the safest investment however this is piece is extremely hard to get hold of globally at the minute so you may be in for a very long wait (several years). If you are looking to purchase something in the near future I would suggest going for a Green face 'Hulk' stainless steel Submariner as they tend to hold their value better than the black face models, or a Black and Blue 'Batman' GMT Master 2 which is a very hot watch at the moment but also quite difficult to get hold of in the UK I understand.

May I also add that's just my opinion from an investment point of view, but as many mentioned a watch is not always about how well it holds value, but just about how much you want it! smile

Unless you have a Swiss Bank Account and will be paying in native currency, I'd forget that idea. The £ v the Swiss Franc is at a frightening level of conversion

Fortunately I do, but even if I didn't I would still buy one by converting my GBP to Francs if I had to, these are currently trading in a bubble for up to 6k over asking price, even once the bubble pops I believe they will still be trading for a premium that will be more than enough to cover extra costs of using your Sterling aboard.

Thanks for the input and good luck with your search the Daytona is stunning and would be my choice of I didn't have to wait 7 years. I just don't like the "hulk" sub at all, still not decided bit hoping to get my hands on a batman GMT within a year as its a present to myself before my wedding next year.

Have you tried a hulk on? Just find it a little more interesting than a black sub. Also a rarer sight.

Just added this to my collection. Started to get the bug for buying them on the last 2 years. Have a omega ceramic SMP and a breitling seawolf. Both fantastic watches. I always wanted the Hulk when I tried it on in Holland 3 years ago

Purchased used from a local dealer at £450 under list and it's only 6 months old and only been worn a handful of times. Benefits of a 5 year warranty too with it being a dec. 2015. Chuffed to bits with it. Little different to the black the dial just blows you away in different lights.

Also put my name down for a Daytona white face at local AD. Probably arrive in about 5 years

Spent ages wanting a Daytona turned up at Schiphol Amsterdam all ready to pull the trigger having flown back from Zurich. After trying on the various colours (wanted yellow gold with steel) I came to the reality that I didn't like them. Any of them. They felt small, thin and almost feminine and my bubble burst there and then. We're all different though and that of course, was only my personal findings.

Do like that Breguet earlier though to be honest.
