I might be wrong however I thought that WR is compromised only when the pushers are activated underwater and that the screw down crowns prevent that. You (probably!) could use the watch underwater without the crowns being fastened however you'd then risk accidental operation of the pushers. In short, keep the crowns screwed down!

That's kind of my worry, fiddling with the pusher and not screwing it back in then jumping in the shower...I did that with the HEV on my Seamaster years ago, requiring a new movement after it got some head and shoulders in lol
