Hi Guys
Is Variomatic still an active member of this forum?
I need a watch repaired, and I'm wondering if he's recommended and still around?

Yes he is, but a bit snowed under.
Best to contact him and see when he can fit your in.
If you use the search, you’ll find posts discussing the reasons for his current sporadic input.

I spoke to him Friday. He's just busy and is using a phone which diverts via Saturn and Hull. Just keep trying and / or send a PH mail.

I understand that Variomatic has his fans on here and is (by reputation) an excellent watch technician, but I suspect his business skills are not as good. Looks like he can't handle his workload and left me quite pi**ed off a few months back as I was half-way through email discussions with him on a repair to my premium brand watch and he just disappeared when I asked how he managed security for sending watches worth GBP 1, 000s by post to his Wales workshop.

I just gave-up and went via an AD (more expensive, but reliable and job done etc).

Pays your money takes your choice etc....

Whereas i spoke to him yesterday, he fully explained how he securely sends hos watches throught the post and took the time to advise me of best practice for packaging.

Also explained that due to reasons I won't mention as they are personal he is running the whole shebang (gotta love that word) at the moment and with it being tourist season he is spending a large portion of his time at front of house.

All this from a chap I've never spoken or dealt with before, and who is £290 cheaper than sending the watch off to bell and ross for a service seeing as they insist on charging me to polish a ceramic watch!

I personally could not of asked for more we agreed to wait a while before i send him my watch due to his backlog and my love for wearing it and am thankful for his honesty and level of help provided, so far for me at least he has proved to me why so many people reccomend him.

Whatever.... Had he responded to me in a timely manner, per the poster before you, I would have been happy to use his services. He didn't respond at all (having started an email discussion with a potential customer). My account reflects my experience of his services, you don't like hearing that, fine.

Calm down folks.

Vario is incredibly busy, with his business and more importantly his personal life / health. Having not provided a full email trail for the above PHer is just one of those things and something that every small business owner has to do at some point for whatever reason. We cannot be there all of the time and for every customer. When health issues step in the customer comes second, or third etc.

Having run my business along side 2 years of cancer treatment I can vouch for how difficult it is to maintain both a functioning body and a profitable / mortgage covering business. Vario's issues are not the same as mine but he needs time and space to get himself sorted.

Blue One, give the guy a break. I am telling you here that Vario has a full plate and it requires his attention more than you do. No amount of online commentary will change that and I suggest you forget whatever bad experience you have and just get on. He will come back to the fold and he will no doubt be back to his ever helpful ways.

Do be quiet.

If you have to try to be clever on a thread where you have made no other contribution, then make sure that you know what the less common words mean in order that you don't make yourself look like a cock.

Amazes me how thing can degenerate so quickly
Variomatic has his fans
He has his detractors.
He runs a business and there is no way he can keep everyone happy all of the time.

If someone has bad experience, there is no reason to then jump on them and tell them to be quiet, just as there is no reason why, when someone heaps praise on someone, we tell them to pull their nose out of a place the sun dont shine

Balance on an internet forum is virtually impossible to achieve, however if someone posts something you disagree with, then tell them so, but try to be polite about it.

There's only one person here making themselves look silly. You're a fan of his, which is great. I'm sure if he didn't ignore people wanting to use his services he'd have a lot more fans.

I also tried many times via three different avenues to get hold of Variomatic for a simple polish and service of an Omega. He never replied to any of the emails or phone messages left. It's great if you're in a position to ignore work, but if you do you will be called out on it. If he has personal problems that's fine, but to completely ignore potential customers is nothing short of rude. A quick reply along the lines of "I'm fully booked up now, it may be best to try someone else" would work wonders.

He has his fans and maybe he just looks after those guys. I wouldn't trust anyone with four-figure goods who can't reply to an email.

i've never used the guy or have any real knowledge of him but give the guy a break. It's been said that this guy is having a really tough time. This has been made clear...Knowing this it kind of puts things in perspective does it not?

If you don't get the service you want find someone else.. In the grand scheme of things it's not a big deal. If you do know the person and have enjoyed his work then show a little compassion and patience.

Has nobody read the bit that says he has his time taken up by health and family? He's not ignoring anyone, he's just got more important things to do. Work comes second to health. Your own families would say the same if it were you in his boat.
