Opinion on Omega?

What is the consensus on here regarding Omega watches?

I saw a Seamaster Planet Ocean over the weekend which caught my eye. Having never owned one, nor knowing anyone else that has one, I thought I'd see what the views on here were.

I have a Seamaster Regatta 44MM and its really nice, fairly heavy and looks good while not in your face (well i dont think so) this one you posted i really like the orange, they also do an option of a leather orange strap i think.

Presume your looking to buy? new or used?

I have a Planet Ocean 46mm non-chrono (with the Omega 8500 movement) that I wear for work offshore. It's had a hard life and still keeps time perfectly, but wears a few scars. It is heavy though. It always surprises me when I change from my Rolex GMT to my PO to come to work. Like strapping a brick to your wrist.

I keep thinking of flogging the PO and just wearing a G Shock for work, but I haven't brought myself to do it yet. I might get it serviced, polished and put it up for sale yet.

Hmm I thought the weight might be an issue. I'd prefer a leather strap but can't quite face the fully orange strap they offer.

Can always go down the aftermarket strap route, theres alot out there. As for Omega, i like em. A Speedmaster Pro is next on the list for me, very nearly bought one but decided not to. Omega for me seem to be better quality than Tag and hold the money a little better.

Here is my 45.5mm PO. I've had it on most OEM straps apart from the metal bracelet.

I don't wear it that often to be honest as I don't think it goes well while I'm suited and booted for work. I tend to wear my Submariner more or my Breitling that I bought a couple of weeks ago.

It's well built but I have had the odd issue of getting it to start again if I have not worn it in a while.

Currently a cheap NATO that caught my eye.

Lovely watches. My best mate is one of the top heads over in Macau for omega and that's his weapon of choice.

I think the ones pictured is the "old" model, there are revisions on the 2016 model, so I would hope you might get a good deal on the 2015 version.

Where did you get that NATO mate as I'm after one exactly like that for my PO.

My wife got me one of these for my birthday earlier in the year - absolutely love it! It's a big bugger and weighs a lot; my other watches don't get worn so much lately and when they do they seem so lightweight

I'm not that keen on the Planet Oceans - don't like the hands and some of the design seems a bit overdone and they are maybe a bit too large. However, if you like the designs you can't go far wrong. Omega's finishing and overall quality is very good. I've had a Seamaster 300m Pro for a few years now and it has been faultless and very accurate. It has great lume too.

I've got a Seamaster Aqua Terra quartz date, silver 'teak-deck' face. The quartz watches are deprecated because they're not Co-Axials, but as a daily wear watch it's fault-less.

Has wind-back hour hand so can easily switch between time zones.

Bought in 2013, first battery lasted two years, took it to Southampton Omega who kept it for three days, replaced the battery and serviced/polished the watch for free under warranty.

Watch keeps perfect time between twice yearly BST/GMT updates, so very satisfied with Omega as a brand.

The Co-Axial autos are well regarded, but will need pro servicing at some point which is not cheap, but they are regarded as a 'watch for life' investment.

I have these two in my lot of watches:




The Constellation I got in 2011 when my daughter was born. It is a nice watch and gets used for the dress-watch occasions. Not a huge fan of gold on watches but I do make an exception for this. Very easy to wear (does not get in the way when worn with a shirt) and has a good weight to it.


The SMP I picked up in 2013 from Jersey (killer price!) while on holiday. This is my daily desk diver. Absolutely love the watch and it is very comfortable. The blue changes in different lighting conditions - not by much, but there definitely is a difference. Keeps great time and just carries on going.



I absolutely love both for different reasons and would never flip either of them. Would I buy another Omega? YES - the Seamaster Deep Black looks awesome...

I owned a Planet Ocean for a while. Lovely watch. Feels good on the wrist and looks fab. Timeless design.

The first decent watch I Purchased in 1997 was an Omega full size Seamaster Professional. Hardly worn it in the last ten years but still wouldn't sell it for the world!

I like Omega's generally, but the PO is probably my least favourite. Have you seen the Seamaster 300 re-issue? I think these look superb. Better proportioned at 41mm, less text on the dial, aged look lume, more versatile colour This would look great on a brown strap.
