Hi All,

So I am collecting my first ever Rolex (first ever 'proper' Swiss watch as a matter of fact) this Friday, in typical fashion I want to try and squeeze every last penny of benefit out of the deal I can!

My questions to all you seasoned watch buyers, can I expect to receive any specific accessories with my watch? Is there anything I should specifically ask for when I collect the piece? Or just anything I should ask/look out for when collecting.

Cheers smile

Ask if they can put you first on the list for a ceramic Daytona.

Ask them about their concierge service. It has gotten me out of many a tight spot when low on coke and strippers.....

Or I might have just got the receipt with mine and asked if the date function was the same as other automatics.

What have you bought?

Although I purchased my first Rolex brand new, I bought through Hackett Watches, rather than a Rolex AD, so I didn't quite get the full-on Rolex purchasing experience (although the savings more than made up for it)

The impression I get from reading PH posts about Rolex purchases is that anything more than the watch is an unexpected bonus. Its as though the fact that you've been allowed to purchase one is reward enough....

I guess they view discounts, freebies and incentives as cheapening the brand

Make sure they give you the winder. Rolex has been shipping them with all new sports models since April this year, but not all ADs have been passing them on.

You'll get a cloth with it anyway, the pouches are service items. Which you'll get in 10 years time when you have it serviced. The AD might have one kicking about he'll give you.

You'll be too excited about collecting the watch to bother about anything else. When I bought my first Rolex, a Sea Dweller 16600, the AD gave me a branded pocket diary/address book. But I'm sure it was because it just happened to be lying around at the time I collected. Ive subsequently bought again from the same AD and have had the odd invite to events, but nothing that has ever tickled my fancy.

Just check the watch is still fully stickered when you collect it, and enjoy!

They'll give you the pouch at the store you're collecting from. You can also expect a drink and a few chocolates.

Congratulations on your purchase.
I managed to obtain a small discount (10%) and was given a bottle of Champagne when I bought my bi-metal Daytona in late July.

You walk into an AD, buy a watch the AD sells, why would you expect anything extra?
Yes it's nice when you get freebies, a recent PAM00512 purchase got me coffee, which I really liked so they gave me a packet of it, an AD service/ carry pouch, a watch branded travel case and 13% discount. I didn't expect any of it and why should anyone?

I guess it's this new world of self entitlement we live in.

Yes, the warranty card. After all, if you're going to flip it you'll need that wink

LOL, calm down - I'ts not 'self entitlement' it's just trying to make sure I get the most out of a deal, even if it does mean a few crappy freebies.

Ha, WoS.

I half-heartedly tried to buy an IWC from them many years ago and wished I hadn't. I asked about a discount and was condescendingly told, "discount?! We sell most of these over list price!"

Went and got 20% off elsewhere.

Err no. I liked the coffee, so they gave me a packet of the ground coffee. And a 13% discount on the watch.
I hope that's clear enough for you. If not I'd suggest reading lessons

Congrats - you hit the jackpot. I am envious!

As they could sell that watch to someone else in the blink of any eye (and way over RRP if they were allowed) I don't imagine they'll feel the need to give anything. However, a great dealer will make the occasion special - you'll only lose your Rolex virginity once.

Expect a free beer/bubbly, a bag and the staff congratulating you on your choice.
